Thrusters are the main components ships require to move around in Space Engineers, players can choose from ion thrusters, atmospheric thrusters, or hydrogen thrusters when building their ships. Ion thrusters are best for space vacuum and atmospheric thrusters are best for planetary atmospheres. Hydrogen thrusters are the best in both vacuum and in the atmosphere, but they require large hydrogen tanks.

Players can combine different thrusters to create the optimum thrusters for their space adventures in space and other planetary atmospheres. Gamers will have to find rare materials to build ion thrusters, but they can use relatively easy-to-find materials to build atmospheric and hydrogen thrusters.

10 MA Maneuvering Aerospike Thrusters

aerospike

The MA Maneuvering Aerospike Thruster is best used to steer space vessels without using gyros. However, players would have to keep at least one gyro installed as this thruster only responds to players’ commands. This thruster has a 1x1x1 size and can be installed both on large and small grids.

This heavily armored thruster only produces 500 kilonewtons force and has a lower fuel usage as it is mainly for control purposes. Players can fit these thrusters on the corners of space vessels for to produce more torque and maneuverability.

9 Zardos Hydro Thrusters

zardos

Zardos Hydro Thrusters consist of Armored Thrusters, Economy Thrusters, and Boosted Thrusters, it allows players to add these three new sub-thrusters to their space vessel. It does not affect vanilla thrusters but works alongside the vanilla thrusters simultaneously.

The Armored Thruster is tough and has higher integrity, Economy Thrusters are more fuel efficient but require thruster components, while Boosted Thrusters produce better thrust force but consume a lot of fuel. Each of these Zardos Hydro Thrusters has small, large, and cowled variants available to players.

8 IOM Thrusters Tiered

iom thrusters

The IOM Thrusters Tiered are powerful enough to work in both planetary atmospheres and the vacuum of space. These thrusters require only half the power consumption rate of atmospheric thrusters to function effectively and can work both on small and large space vessels.

It has 3 levels and each level produces a higher thrust force as it increases. Levels 1 uses 3x the force of an atmospheric thruster and 3x ion thruster component, and levels 2, and 3 produce 7x, and 10x the force of an atmospheric thruster and require 7x and 10x ion thruster components respectively.

7 Epstein Drive Thruster

epstein drive

The Epstein Drive Thruster produces a thrust force of 12MN which is equivalent to the thrust produced by 2 standard hydrogen thrusters. It has a fuel efficiency that is eight times better than hydrogen thrusters. It uses hydrogen for fuel and consumes as much power as a standard ion thruster.

The Epstein Drive is a hybrid mix of hydrogen and ion thrusters. Players can use this thruster in the vacuum of space and planetary atmosphere, however, it only produces a thrust force of 6MN in a planetary atmosphere.

6 Industrial Thruster Reworked

industrial thruster

Players can use the industrial thruster on both large and small grids, this thruster can work both in the vacuum of space and planetary atmosphere. However, the max thrust output in planetary atmospheres is only 30% while the max thrust output in space is 100%.

This engine’s size is 2x3x8 with a maximum thrust force of 10.8 meganewtons and a performance cost unit of 45. It has thrice the power of a standard large thruster. Players can also use the Industrial Thruster Reworked in survival mode.

5 Hull's Economical Hydrogen Thrusters

hull economical

Hull’s Economical Hydrogen Thrusters reduce the fuel consumption rate of a ship by 90%, while it does not increase the speed and acceleration of a hip, it helps conserve fuel for longer use before refueling. Like all hydrogen thrusters, it can work well in space and also in planetary atmospheres.

Considering how difficult and fuel-costly it is for players to travel to space or other planets in Space Engineers, Hull’s Economical Hydrogen Thruster makes it cheaper and easier for players to leave planets and travel further into space or other planets.

4 Plasma Thruster

plasma thrusters

The Plasma Thruster is perfect for players who dislike the idea of tiered thrusters. It only consumes half the hydrogen a standard hydrogen thruster would expend but produces 4 times the thrust of a standard hydrogen thruster. It does not consume more power than hydrogen thrusters as it uses thruster components as catalysts to achieve an improved burn.

The Plasma Thruster is the result of ionizing and supercharging hydrogen particles. It processes hydrogen particles through thruster components typically found in ion thrusters achieving a higher nozzle velocity which gives it a better thrust.

3 Helicarrier Thruster MK II

helicarrier

The Helicarrier Thruster MK II is a powerful engine that is capable of producing thrust force reaching over 200 meganewtons. Players can use this thruster in planetary atmospheres and the vacuum in space, however, it produces around 20% more thrust in space and also consumes more power.

The Helicarrier Thruster MK II comes in different sizes, the large thrusters and the small thrusters. The large thruster has 3 types, their thrust force output is between 15 to 270MN. The small thrusters also have different types and can produce thrust force between 1.5 to 27MN.

2 Hyper Thrusters - Hostile Universe

hyper thrusters

The Hyper Thruster produces thrust forces equivalent to the output from 5 large thrusters and consumes a total of 5MW of power than the combined 5 large thrusters. This thruster is suitable for the hostile universe, a mod that tries to make Space Engineers an enjoyable PVE game.

It requires several thruster components and more than 400 computers to function. The Hyper Thruster is survival ready, and it is suitable for players who prefer playing versus the environment to player versus player. It is ideal for gamers who focus on surviving and attacking NPCs and their assets.

1 Titan Engine

titan engine

The Titan engine is a powerful thruster that players can use in capital ships, it requires six large reactors to function and provides a maximum thrust output of 40 meganewtons. The engine is 5 blocks tall and wide and over 20 blocks in length.

This engine is adapted for survival and players can install this powerful thruster on large ships and stations. Due to the power of the engine, its exhaust flame can destroy a standard-sized fighter spacecraft standing up to 30 blocks behind it.

Space Engineers is available on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and 5.
