‘South Park: The Game’ Announced

By | 5 years ago

The foul-mouthed, trash-talking, forever young fourth-graders of South Park, Colorado are coming back to the video game industry in an all new role-playing game that is shooting for a 2012 release. South Park: The Game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, Alpha Protocol) and will be published by THQ.

Hopes are high for South Park: The Game. Last time we saw a South Park platform-game was back in the late 90s. The first big South Park game released was a self-titled entry for the Nintendo 64, which was later released on the PlayStation and PC. Two more games were released on the Dreamcast, PC, N64, and PlayStation. All of the games were released by the now closed publisher Acclaim.

It’s been a long time coming for the juveniles of South Park to make their way back to our consoles, and after a full fledged 15 seasons since its conception in 1997 — can you believe they’ve been allowed on-air for that long? — the South Park boys may finally get the game they deserve.

Oscar nominated and Tony and Emmy award winning creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker will of course be performing the dialogue, writing the script, and overseeing the project. (After watching the documentary, South Park: Six Days to Air, it will still be amazing to see how these guys are going to pull this off with a 16th season in the works.)

A collaboration with THQ and Obsidian, this RPG will see players welcomed into South Park, CO as a new student. It will be the player’s quest to make friends and defend the town from ominous threats — possibly Tom Cruise or Mecha Streisand.
