A couple of weeks ago, South Park mentioned Fortnite in its episode about school shootings, and as it turns out, the latest episode of the show also had a reference to a popular video game. As some eagle-eyed fans no doubt noticed, South Park's season 22 episode 3 "The Problem with a Poo" actually features a reference to Overwatch.

Near the end of the episode, the kids of South Park are shopping for costumes at a Halloween store called Halloween Outlet. The store's windows feature a number of costumes on display, including popular superheroes like Captain America and Black Panther, as well as some horror movie villains, like Pinhead and Freddy Krueger. South Park's Halloween Outlet is also selling costumes based on two of Overwatch's most recognizable characters, Reaper and Tracer.

As can be seen in the image below, Halloween Outlet has both a Reaper mask and a Tracer mask in stock. Reaper and Tracer have both been featured prominently in Blizzard's marketing for Overwatch, with Tracer even on the box art, so it makes sense for Halloween Outlet to feature Halloween costumes based on them over other characters from the game.

Of course, this is far from the only video game reference South Park has made. As previously mentioned, the show mentioned Fortnite a couple of weeks ago, and in the past, entire episodes have been based around gaming. The most famous example is probably the World of Warcraft episode that the animators worked on with assistance from Blizzard, but there is also the Let's Play episode that's worth mentioning, which even featured an appearance by PewDiePie.

In the future, South Park fans can expect show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker to continue including video game references. After all, the two are admitted gamers themselves, and have even made appearances at E3 in addition to working directly on the South Park video games from Ubisoft.

Whether or not another South Park video game is produced remains to be seen, but it seems as though the industry's influence won't be far from the show.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
