Since its reveal back in 2021, Round8 Studios' upcoming Soulslike, Lies of P, has been relatively quiet, only dropping hints and updates sporadically. However, Gamescom Opening Night Live has changed that as a brand-new trailer has been released, giving eager fans more insight into Lies of P's unique story as well as a look at the Soulslike combat that players will experience when Lies of P releases next year.

Compared to other Soulslike games, Lies of P boasts a unique premise based on the children's story Pinocchio. Players will take control of the puppet and are tasked with roaming the crumbling city of Krat as they look to unite with Mr. Geppetto. When Lies of P was revealed, the developers went on to mention a unique system that revolves around lying when participating in dialogue. Since then, Round8 Studios has remained tight-lipped, but the newest trailer has given fans plenty of information on what is to come.

Gamescom Opening Night Live debuted the newest trailer which showcases four minutes of story and gameplay along with revealing that it is a day one Game Pass title. The city of Krat has fallen into chaos and madness by an unknown entity, and Pinocchio is the city's only hope depending on the choices he makes. The trailer proceeds to showcase combat, and much like the upcoming title Steelrising, Pinocchio will be fighting through the streets of Krat against automated foes of a variety of sizes as they look to stop the hero in his tracks. Pinocchio will have to make use of a variety of tools such as a flamethrower and his advanced combat skills in order to fulfill his destiny.

The trailer ends with a dialogue portion from an ominous-looking group. One member of the group bears a coffin, and upon placing the coffin on the ground, it opens up, revealing the words "LIAR" written inside. Another member instructs players to hop in the box possibly signaling that this group could appear based on player choice in their playthrough in this highly anticipated Soulslike title.

Lies of P is slowly but steadily making its way towards releasing with this trailer giving fans plenty of content to dissect. As more footage has come out showcasing Lies of P, Round8 Studios' title has steadily drawn comparisons to fellow Soulslike Bloodborne, with the latest trailer further cementing the comparison. Time will tell what this title will do to differentiate itself, but the unique take on player dialogue and launching as a day one Xbox Game Pass title is definitely a start.

Lies of P is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
