According to Soulja Boy himself, more than five million units of Soulja Boy games consoles have been sold. Many were already hesitant at these sales figures, especially considering that the consoles appear to be low-quality knock-offs of branded devices. However, a tweet from the "Crank That" rapper asking fans for donations has only increased suspicions about his levels of success.

In a tweet posted yesterday, Soulja Boy told his 5.26 million followers that if they send him something through the Cash App, he would send them a free SouljaWatch and a SouljaConsole. Confusingly, in the same sentence, Soulja Boy said that he would be sending the free devices to a "random donator who sends the largest donation." The contradictory statement had many scratching their heads, with a fair few replies to Soulja Boy's tweet calling him a scam artist - and not a particularly smart one.

Many of the other replies to Soulja Boy's Twitter post mock the rapper for what appears to be significant financial difficulties. Fans seem to agree that Soulja Boy is asking for donations in order to replace money lost from his previous dropshipping venture. Facing a potential lawsuit from Nintendo over the sale of dropshipped, knock-off versions of official Nintendo products, the rapper removed them from sale. It's unclear whether Nintendo actually asked the rapper for money, but it seems as though his dropshipping has been an unsuccessful venture and he needs fans' help to replace that cash.

Some others are just asking Soulja Boy to stop trying to deceive his fans. Soulja Boy has recently started selling a different SouljaGame Handheld console which looks a lot like the Sony PlayStation Vita. In the replies to the donation tweet, fans call the rapper out for this, saying that he wouldn't be struggling financially if he just tried to make money in a legitimate, non-copyright infringing way.

It's unclear whether the donations from fans will be enough to help Soulja Boy reach his financial goals or to consider leaving the knock-off console sales life (and all the trouble it brings) behind him. But many will encourage the rapper to get on the straight and narrow. After all, Soulja Boy himself has suggested that he would like to get into the world of esports, a sector of gaming which could be very lucrative. At least, it could be more potentially lucrative than asking fans for donations on Twitter.
