One of the key factors in the upcoming title from Namco, SoulCalibur V, is the multi-year time skip that takes place before the game. The 17-year gap between games means that a number of characters will look and possibly fight differently – not to mention opens the door for new characters to make their debut.
We already know, as a result of the E3 2011 trailer, that long-time favorites Siegfried and Mitsurugi would be returning for SoulCalibur V, and we’ll have two new characters in Patroklos and his sister Pyrrha. But now, Namco has started the rumor mill with two more additions to the roster – to be unveiled at Comic-Con.
For the time being, we’re only privy to their silhouettes.
Naturally, the shapes are all we have to go by – as no other hints were dropped by Namco as to who the fighters might be.
Still, it is fun to speculate, so let’s take a look at the two pictures – and see if we can venture an accurate guess:
The man’s long jacket and collar easily indicate that it’s Raphael – the french swordsman who debuted back in Soul Calibur II. It would make sense for the character to make an appearance. Not only has he been one of the top villains in the series, but he became a vampiric creature between the second and third game. So he could appear seventeen years after the last game – and have changed very little.
The other character is a little harder to pinpoint but, most likely, Talim will fill the silhouette. She was about 15 or 16 during the other games – so she wouldn’t be considered “too old to fight.” If anything, she could return as a better and more capable fighter than ever before. But the overall perky tone in the picture certainly contradicts her character – which was a lot more calm and subdued. Unless she went through some dramatic character development off-screen, Talim isn’t a sure-thing match – like Shura before her.
Of course, either one of these could just as easily be brand-new characters, though why Namco would go to this amount of effort, to just tease us with someone new, is a bit of a mystery. We’ll find-out later this month at Comic Con – which runs from July 20 to 24.
Who do you think the two silhouettes are? What characters do you want to see make a return?
SoulCalibur V will arrive in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
