One of the most unique and, in many cases, polarizing aspects of modern gaming is the introduction of achievements. These small prompts that the player receives when completing a certain challenge in the game have quickly become an expected addition to any game released today not made for a Nintendo system. Some view them as unnecessary add-ons that accomplish nothing, while others will buy terrible games solely to increase their gamer score.

The aspect of Achievements we find most interesting is how we find out so much about a game before it releases through their descriptions.

Soul Calibur V is no different and the list of achievements/trophies for the upcoming fighter has made its way online. While most of them are the expected ones from a fighting game, there are a few noteworthy achievements to highlight.

In addition to the typical achievements for completing the story mode and beating a certain number of opponents online, there is one that makes mention of the new "Legendary Souls" mode - a boss rush mode where players face off against increasingly difficult bosses.

There's also an achievement for playing as special guest character Ezio Auditore of Assassin's Creed fame, and a rather unique one for beating Harada: TEKKEN. It was announced towards the end of last year that Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada (who uses a Devil Jin fighting style) is a character in Soul Calibur V’s new Quick Match mode.

There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000 points.

With Soul Calibur V just a few weeks away from release, some might decide to look back on how the series has progressed up to this point, in order to celebrate the new title. Namco Bandai apparently agrees with this idea, as they have announced that the original Soul Calibur game will be released on the iPhone in just a few short days. Naturally, the time trial and survival modes from that game will be compatible with leaderboards, giving players an extra incentive to play.

Soul Calibur V will release on January 30th in North America and February 2nd in Europe for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The original Soul Calibur will arrive on iPhone on January 19th.
