Namco Bandai’s Soul Calibur 5 is getting ready to unleash weapon-based warfare on unsuspecting consumers at the end of this month. Since the game is so close to release, presumably there wasn’t much unannounced information that could still be shared with Soul Calibur‘s pre-installed fan-base.
Those presumptions have been proven wrong, as leaked images from Soul Calibur 5 seem to all but confirm that the veteran fighter Kilik and newbie Elysium will also be included in the game’s final roster.
The revealing images originated on NeoGAF and they appear legitimate. Still, fans shouldn’t look forward to playing as either character until an official confirmation is released by Namco Bandai.
Kilik is looking like one serious bad-ass in his image, and the promise of wielding his staff once more may be an exciting thought for enthusiasts of the series — it may also be infuriating for those who have branded the character as the SC equivalent to Mortal Kombat‘s Noob Saibot. It’s nice to see that another one of the original Soul Calibur combatants may have not been killed off yet, but for now fans should remain sceptical.
The other character, Elysium, is someone fans have never heard of, but speculation points to her possibly being the allegedly deceased Sophitia — whose daughter and son have claimed spots on the roster in her absence. If this newcomer (wily veteran in disguise?) has secured a spot on the final roster, then it’ll be interesting to see what role she has in the grand scheme of things.
Namco Bandai hasn’t had a very easy go of keeping leaked information on Soul Calibur 5 from popping up all over the internet. They couldn’t even keep the inclusion of Assassin’s Creed protagonist Ezio Audtiore under wraps long enough to shock everyone with a trailer, making even more “leaked” info seem all the more accurate.
If you’re already sold on picking up the first major fighting game of 2012, check out the complete list of Soul Calibur 5 achievements/trophies that you’ll probably never obtain (that’s a challenge).
With or without these two rumored combatants, Soul Calibur 5 will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on January 31st.
