SoulCalibur 5 gameplay trailer

SoulCalibur 5 is progressing quite nicely in development, and to prove it Namco Bandai has released a trailer just in time to get gamers ready for their E3 festivities.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the game except that it will contain the series-staple weapon-fueled combat. Hardcore players will notice that the battle system has been tweaked a little bit – since the last installment.

The gameplay in SoulCalibur 5 seems to have remained largely the same since the series last installment, SoulCalibur 4, but one major difference that immediately stands out is the graphics. The game looks quite stunning, and the teaser images that Namco Bandai released a few weeks ago really don’t do the title justice.

If the final product looks as good as the new trailer then fans of the popular fighting franchise are sure to become lost in a land of visual ecstasy… okay, so maybe they aren’t that great, but they’re still pretty impressive.

You can check out SoulCalibur 5 in all of it’s weapon-tastic glory in the trailer below.

There are quite a few familiar faces in the latest trailer, but as you can tell by the look of poor Mitsurugi, these faces will have aged quite a bit – because SoulCalibur 5 actually takes place 17 years after the original. If everyone’s favourite samurai is looking that haggard then it’s scary to think what the other characters may look like in SC5.

The new game is said to only be 10% complete, and if that’s what the game looks like at that point in development, then we are in for a truly great (looking) fighting game. It’ll be interesting to see what the title looks like when it goes gold – and hopefully they get around to announcing the guest characters at E3. Remember that one time Link from The Legend of Zelda was in SoulCalibur? Yeah, us too – hint, hint.

What did you think of the new trailer? Which guest characters would you like to see appear in SC5?

SoulCalibur 5 is set to release in 2012 on Xbox 360 and PS3.
