Microsoft has been making waves with its Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which gives subscribers instant access to over 100 games including brand-new, day one releases. Xbox Game Pass has been a key part of Microsoft's strategy this generation, and now it seems that Sony is finally set to respond. According to a new report, Sony will be officially unveiling its answer to Xbox Game Pass "as early as next week."

This is according to a new report by Bloomberg, which claims that Sony's Game Pass competitor, known by the codename Project Spartacus, will be a combination of PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus, with multiple subscription tiers to choose from. The games will reportedly include newer titles as well as "classics from older PlayStation eras," though specific game titles weren't mentioned in the report.

It was also mentioned that there will be one big difference between Sony's Spartacus subscription service and Xbox Game Pass, and that is the lack of brand-new, day one releases. As previous reports have indicated, Sony is not planning on offering its big first-party exclusives through its Game Pass competitor on day one. It seems Sony's strategy will be to sweeten the pot with classic games that may not be readily available on modern platforms as opposed to day one releases.

Those curious about other details regarding Project Spartacus will have to wait for next week it seems, assuming that the reveal happens as planned. The Bloomberg report does not provide specific games that will be available through Sony's new subscription service, and it also doesn't have pricing information either. However, one would have to imagine that the pricing would be competitive with Xbox Game Pass, which offers PC Game Pass and vanilla Xbox Game Pass at $9.99 per month each, as well as a more robust Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription at $14.99 per month.

Based on the Bloomberg report, it sounds like Project Spartacus will be similar to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in that it's going to give PlayStation gamers the most bang for their buck. By bundling together PlayStation Now and PS Plus benefits, not to mention the classic games supposedly coming to the service, Sony could make its new subscription service extremely appealing to its fans.

Combining PS Plus and PlayStation Now makes a lot of sense, and it will be interesting to see the full scope of Spartacus when the reveal does happen. If it's really going to happen next week, then fans should have their answers soon.
