Coming as the closer of a PlayStation 5 event last September, Sony Santa Monica revealed that it would be developing a highly anticipated sequel to its widely acclaimed God of War reboot, with God of War: Ragnarok announced through a short cinematic teaser. The game, which is tentatively scheduled for this year, seemingly isn't the only surprise the studio has up its sleeve, however.

Revealed through a post on the company's Twitter, Sony Santa Monica is looking for an experienced art director to work on "a new unannounced title" separate from God of War: Ragnarok. Although rumors have circulated for quite some time that the studio was indeed crafting something entirely new alongside the long-awaited sequel, it seems the post is a direct confirmation that the team is working on multiple projects.

Other than that, there's little to go off. Discussions about the team working on two games started after a screenshot from LinkedIn was leaked on ResetEra back in 2018. The image, which focused on a technical director at Sony Santa Monica's job listing for the studio, revealed that the team was allegedly working on "a strategic, multi-phase, long-term studio plan spanning two future projects." With God of War: Ragnarok announced, it seems this unannounced game is the second part of that plan. As the 2018 reboot of God of War was a smash-hit for the studio, widely being regarded as one of the best titles of the previous generation, many will no doubt be happy to know they're expanding their focus to work on more experiences.

As for what this game will be, it seems the studio has been interested in working on a new IP for quite some time now, with it originally envisioning an expansive sci-fi game that, unfortunately, never saw the light of day. If the team decides to venture down that route once again, it'd be interesting to see it shift focus from the mythological Norse and Greek pantheons to the vast regions of space or something equally futuristic. Nonetheless, players will have to keep a watchful eye on whatever this second project turns out to be.

As for God of War: Ragnarok, the sequel will assumedly follow on from the dramatic finale of the franchise's most recent outing, with Kratos and Atreus accidentally inciting the apocalyptic Norse event known as Ragnarok. The game will hopefully look to capitalize on the compelling story that made the previous game such a staple of the PlayStation 4 lifecycle, with the mysterious reveals that capped off the previous game's campaign sure to make Kratos' next adventure all the more exciting.
