Sony fans may soon get a ton of new information regarding the company’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. Sony announced a PS5 showcase event for September 16 at 1:00 p.m. PST, where the company will hopefully reveal the console’s launch date and price.

Sony has held fast that the PS5 will release during 2020’s holiday season, despite complications from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, it seems that Sony is preparing for the console’s high demand in the United States, as reports suggest it is using air freights to ship large quantities of the console overseas.

Recent reports suggest that Sony is preparing to sell a lot of PS5 units in the United States. Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad revealed on Twitter that Sony is using air freights to ship large quantities of the console overseas. Ahmad cites Delta Airlines Cargo Head Jerry Tai, going on to say that around 60 aircrafts are have been booked by Sony. While it was likely that Sony wouldn’t go back on its word that the PS5 would still launch in 2020, this information suggests that PS5 pre-orders may go live sooner than many expected.

Fans have been waiting on-edge for Sony to reveal the launch date and point for the PS5, especially now that Microsoft has official announced the Xbox Series X price and release date. Sony fans are eager to see just how heavily the company is willing to compete with Microsoft during this next-generation console launch. Fans know for certain that the PS5 will release during 2020’s holiday season, as Sony seems to be gearing up for major demand.

Regardless, this September's PS5 showcase event may give fans the closure they’re looking for when it comes to the PS5’s release. Sony may have some surprise game announcements at the upcoming PS5 showcases event. However, the fact that Microsoft has beat Sony to the punch revealing its price points of $499 and $299 for the Series X and Series S respectively may not mean as much depending on what Sony reveals for its own consoles.

Fans of both systems are eager for next-generation consoles, but Sony’s price reveal will likely solidify a lot of peoples' decisions on what console to purchase. Some analysts are predicting that the PS5 will double Xbox Series X sales by the end of 2020, but this remains to be seen. However, those predictions might be more or less clear after Sony's upcoming PS5 showcase.
