If Sony's previous showcases have proved anything, it's that the PlayStation 5 is looking to have an absolutely stacked 2021. From blockbuster experiences like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon: Forbidden West to exciting third-party games like Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, the extensive list of upcoming games slated to hit the console has a must-play experience for every type of player.

If fans needed any more convincing that the lineup for this year is primed to be an exciting one, PlayStation's segment in the Sony Square conference revealed brand new release windows for several of the console's biggest games this year. While many might expect these were front and center during Jim Ryan's presentation, they actually came courtesy of a sizzle reel that capped off PlayStation's part of the showcase, with a number of projected release windows cropping up under the PlayStation logo.

While some of the reveals were already known prior to the event, such as Ratchet and Clank launching at some point this year and Hitman 3 debuting this month, a few definitely took viewers by surprise, especially considering how hastily they were announced during the broadcast. For one, it seems Square Enix's Project Athia will be landing in January 2022. The title was first announced back in June last year, with the plot seemingly following a female protagonist who ventures to a mysterious fantasy world filled with strange creatures and magic. Not much more is known about the project other than the fact it's explicitly designed for the PlayStation 5, with the console having a two-year exclusivity deal with the game.

The sizzle reel also drops the announcement that Capcom's Pragmata has been bumped from its tentative 2022 spot to 2023, meaning it'll release three years after its reveal trailer. With the initial look at the game showcasing a purely cinematic rendition of what appears to be a mind-bending sci-fi experience, it's unsurprising the game needs a lot longer in the oven.

Meanwhile Stray - an intriguing indie sci-fi experience about a cat lost in a world of robots - and Ghostwire: TokyoTango Gameworks' new spooky action-adventure game - are both slated for October this year. Finally, Kena: Bridge of Spirits also got a firm release month, with the game meant to drop in March 2021.

Naturally, it's worth pointing out that these are all subject to change, especially as they haven't been formally announced. With COVID also continuing to grip the globe, delays are also more common than ever as studios deal with unprecedented circumstances. Regardless, 2021 is looking to be a big year for games, with Halo Infinite, Resident Evil: Village, Hogwarts Legacy, Gotham Knights, and more also set debut this year.
