Sony Interactive Entertainment officially reveals the time and date for its forthcoming PlayStation press conference to be held in June during E3 2016.
As many fans could have guessed, Sony isn’t going to be throwing any change-ups when it comes to the company’s E3 2016 press conference, as the multinational tech firm will retain its standard time slot on the Monday just before the beginning of the event. For those unaware of what this means, it’s to be understood that Sony has its briefing scheduled for 6:00 PM PT on June 13, 2016.
Sony began sending invites to the media this afternoon, revealing that its press conference will take place at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles, which happens to be a few minutes away from the Los Angeles Convention Center wherein E3 proper is being held. Unlike some other companies such as Ubisoft, who has teased the reveal of a new franchise ahead of the conference, Sony has yet to explicate any of its plans.
With Sony not revealing details as to what will be on display, it’s left up to the public to speculate what could be a part of the show. Since PlayStation VR’s release date is this fall, the company is likely use the headset as one of its primary focuses during the conference, while potentially relying on an unforeseen reveal or two in order to spice things up. After all, much to everybody’s surprise last year, Sony used E3 2015 as a platform to announce Shenmue 3, a game that practically no one expected to be in development.
Of course, it’s also possible that the rumors of an improved PS4 are true, and that Sony is waiting until E3 2016 to officially unveil it. Nevertheless, if recent speculation is to be believed, then the company could make an announcement regarding the console’s existence later this year at the Tokyo Game Show alongside Nintendo’s mysterious NX system.
Whatever the case may be, as far as its competition at E3 2016 goes, Sony is set to follow Microsoft’s press conference that’s slated for earlier in the day at 9:30 AM PT. Nintendo, interestingly enough, has reportedly decided to alter its typical proceedings by not holding the same kind of Nintendo Direct event that it’s done in past years. Taking all of this into consideration, this year’s E3 is sure to be one for the record books.
