For many players, PlayStation Plus is one of the most popular subscription services in the industry. Sony earlier revealed that it had 48 million subscribers as of December 31, 2021, but for the most part, PlayStation Plus has remained the same for the last decade or so.The industry has gone through massive changes in these years, as some publishers are now offering their own subscription services that give players access to the ultimate edition of games on day one. Additionally, with the growing popularity of Xbox Game Pass, many fans expected Sony to make significant changes to PlayStation Plus during the PS5 generation. After months of speculation and rumors, Sony has finally revealed a revamp of PlayStation Plus.RELATED: GTA Online on PS5 Giving Players One Week Free PS Plus TrialJim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, reveals the changes in a new post on the official PlayStation Blog. He states that PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now will merge into a revamped service that gives customers a choice between three membership tiers: PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium. The essential tier is the same as the current PS Plus model, complete with monthly games, exclusive discounts, cloud storage, and access to online multiplayer. Its price also remains unchanged; however, the number of monthly games will reduce from a possible 3 or 4 to 2 titles. The Extra category gives fans access to a catalog of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games and all the benefits of the Essential tier. It will cost $99.99 yearly, and Sony plans on including hit games like Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal on launch. Sony states that the library will be regularly refreshed with more first-party and third-party games.

The Premium version is a step above that, and it comes with a few extra features. It adds up to 340 games to the lineup, including the ability to stream PlayStation games. Users also get access to a catalog of PS1, PS2, and PSP titles with an option to stream and download. Finally, it offers time-limited trials and will cost $119.99 yearly. Regions where the streaming services are unavailable will receive the PlayStation Deluxe tier at a reduced price.

Sony then confirms that the revamped PlayStation Plus service will launch in Asia in June, followed by North America, Europe, and the rest of the world. Sony plans to release the service in most regions by the end of the first half of 2022.
