The PlayStation 5 is Sony's video game console entry to the ninth generation of video game consoles. It is slated to launch on November 12 of 2020 in North America, Australia, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea, and almost everywhere else just a week after that. It will go toe-to-toe with Microsoft's Xbox Series X and S.

The PS5's predecessor, the PS4, was critically acclaimed by both fans and critics. It wasn't without its faults, though. Be that as it may, it had intricate details and praiseworthy features fans welcomed with arms wide open. Now, it seems the PS5 is following through. While the full power of the PS5 is still yet to be observed, with only a handful of people actually getting the chance to review the hardware, the console already has quite a few awesome lesser-known features gamers will surely appreciate.

10 Alter The Difficulty In The Game Presets

PS5 game preset

There is no shame in playing a game in easy mode. Players are free to pick whatever setting brings them the most joy, and that could mean a more relaxing playthrough. Others, however, live to play for the challenges and the satisfaction it provides.

The PS5 now has a feature that will automatically set games to the difficulty setting of a player's choosing. Once a difficulty setting is chosen in the system's preset, a game will immediately follow through and will no longer set the normal difficulty as the standard option. This only works on games that actually offer difficulty options.

9 Invert Camera Controls

Players who prefer inverted camera controls will be happy with Sony's inclusion of this feature in its upcoming console. This is something that was missing from Sony's previous consoles. Microsoft incorporated it into the Xbox 360, and a little bit with the Xbox One, but it has been left out for the Xbox Series X.

Inverters will be able to set this setting immediately for the games they play on the console by tweaking its preset in the console's setting panel. They will be able to invert both the x-axis and y-axis, with an animated clip that will show how this system will work exactly.

8 The DualSense's Intricate Details

One aspect of the PS5 that is already gaining a positive reception is its new controller. It has an incredible haptic feedback system, added with a resistance mechanism that's placed in the controller's triggers for better immersion.

The PS5's DualSense is by far the most modern and "next-generation" controller across the board. On top of its immersive features, it also has a very intricate detail that can be seen from the surface. If the players look at the controller closely enough, they will see that it's actually made up of tiny PlayStation symbols. This same design can also be found on the console's faceplates.

7 Spoiler-Proofing

Days Gone PS5

Almost everyone hates spoilers. Who gets thrilled with the idea of accidentally stumbling upon an important, major story detail while innocently browsing online? Well, the PlayStation 5 has a feature that's empathetic towards this sentiment.

Since the screenshot sharing system is now more streamlined than ever with the PS5, this also allows for various opportunities with getting spoiled. Thankfully, there's an option that allows the PS5 to immediately tag a screenshot if the developer deems the scene a spoiler or if it's an area the player has not reached yet.

6 Automatically Turn Subtitles On

Those who enjoy reading a video game's dialogue will appreciate this feature. Often times, subtitles aren't a standard option for English-speaking video games. However, dialogue can become indistinguishable due to unfamiliar accents, sloppy audio mixing, or faulty sound system. This is where subtitles become useful.

More often than not, players step into a game's campaign for the first time to be greeted with dialogue that's integral to the story. Many games don't automatically turn on subtitles. If the dialogue is incomprehensible, the players will miss details that are vital to the story simply because the subtitles aren't initially integrated. With the PS5's subtitle preset, players will no longer have to worry about this.

5 For Trophy Hunters

Completionists out there will be glad to know that the PS5 will feature a trophy "progress" indicator. Meaning, players will be able to check how close they exactly are to getting a trophy percentage-wise. This mainly works for "collectible" trophies, ones that reward players for completing a set or collecting every single item of a specific type.

For example, if the player is playing Final Fantasy VII and the trophy is for collecting all the materia in the game, they will be able to see from the trophy menu how close they are to completing the collection.

4 Screenshots, Recording, & Streaming

Screenshots have been a thing for the PlayStation since the PS3. However, the recording and streaming capabilities of prior consoles have been subpar, at best. The PS4 Pro cannot capture video at a resolution higher than 1080p. Consequently, a player would have to use a third-party external recorder for 4K resolution, which is very expensive.

When it comes to the PS5, Sony has made sure that this is a simple process. Players can now record and stream in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

3 Cooling Fan Can & Will Be Altered Via Online Updates

The PS5's cooling fan is a massive piece of hardware. Alongside the console's heatsink, these parts ensure that the PS5 would remain under cool temperatures while running power-demanding games without making too much noise in the process. This is an issue many gamers had with the PS4 Pro. That console rung so loudly, it became infamous for it.

The console's cooling fan and heatsink were added to counteract the issue of noise and cooling. In fact, these two components are responsible for the herculean size of the PS5. Interestingly, the parameters of the cooling fan will be constantly upgraded in the future via online updates. This is to ensure the fan will work according to the need of future games, which will no doubt make more use of the PS5's computing capacity.

2 HTRF Profiles

Audio is a massive attribute for the PS5. The console now uses something called the Tempest 3D Audio Tech which simulates a 3D audio environment regardless of what audio device you're using, whether it be the PS5's Pulse headphones, a third-party headphone, or just the TV's base speaker.

The Tempest Audio uses something called HTRF, or head-related transfer function, to properly do this. HRTF is the way a person perceives sound from the source up to the soundwaves' travel to the person's ear canal. Since everyone's ear shape is different, everyone has a different HRTF profile. The PS5 has a couple of HRTF profiles at launch which players can play around with until they find the one that suits them best. In the future, players can actually send photos of their ears to Sony so they can create a tailor-made HRTF profile for them.

1 Customization

The PS5 is perhaps the most contemporary-looking console of this generation. It comes with an easily-removable faceplate, an attribute that was never present in any console before it. This faceplate can then be replaced with a customized one in the future. This will allow players to really make their console unique to them.

While this is common knowledge right about now, not that many people know that the DualSense is customizable as well. The black panel of the controller can be removed and replaced. This means players can customize both the console and the controller so that the design for both will match with each other.
