Sony Music Entertainment has just launched a brand new video game label called Unties, and it's aiming to streamline small independent game studios with the company's large production channels. Today's press release indicates that Unties will specifically look to discover games with unique features that offer something special in a sea of all-too-similar titles, but more interestingly is that Sony Music Entertainment's Unties isn't a PlayStation-only platform. In fact, the label just announced its first game for the Nintendo Switch.

Tiny Metal is a Japanese-created arcade game that takes heavy inspiration from the likes of Advance Wars. Turn-based combat with a variety of soldiers and mechanical weapons is the name of the game, with a few added tricks like hero units and terrain elevation. The game is being developed on the Unreal Engine, which allows the developers to both pay homage to the chibi-esque looks of Advance Wars while simultaneously delivering smooth-looking 3D action. The fan reaction to Tiny Metal has been very positive so far, so it's not surprising the game was a top pick for Unties' entrance to the market.

Unties will be releasing the turn-based strategy title worldwide on November 21 for the Nintendo Switch, PC, and the PlayStation 4, a strong indicator that this probably won't be the last time this Sony-run label branches out to other platforms. Unties has confirmed other titles named Last Standard, Merkava Avalanch and Deemo Reborn will launch under the label for PS4 and PSVR, with a PC release scheduled for the first two. The label has yet to comment on future console releases. It'll be interesting to see if Unties launches a game on the Xbox One, a step that might push Sony towards allowing cross-play between the rival consoles.

Tiny Metal started out as a Kickstarter project that didn't initially include the Nintendo Switch, and ultimately failed to hit its $50,000 target. Somewhere between that Kickstarter run and Untie's acquisition, the developer went through a name change (Area 34 to Area 35) and has evidently been granted access to the funds it needs to complete the game. With just over a month left until the Advance Wars-inspired title hits the global market, only time will tell how Sony's cross-platform business venture pans out.
