There's no doubt that Sony PlayStation has been a dominant brand when it comes to the world of gaming, especially when one considers how the PS4 recently surpassed more than 82 million consoles sold, further marking the system's inevitability of beating the PS3's lifetime sales. Interestingly enough, the PS4's most recent sales feat has now helped the tech firm move upwards of 500 million PlayStation units thus far, which has inspired the celebratory release of a limited edition PS4 Pro.

As seen in the video below, Sony shows viewers each iteration of the hardware, touches on a few of the milestones from the company's history with the console, and on the various ad campaigns used for the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Several iconic games also make an appearance in the footage, as exclusive PlayStation titles like Uncharted, the Gran Turismo series, the God of War franchise, and more are highlighted. And, of course, spliced in between the celebration of all-things-PlayStation are glimpses of the new limited edition PS4 Pro.

According to Sony, the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro features a translucent dark blue console shell and matching DualShock 4 wireless controller, and also comes with a PlayStation Camera, Vertical Stand, and mono headset. What's more is that the system includes a 2TB hard drive to store games, apps, videos, screenshots, and more. Those interested will need to act fast, though, as it will be limited to 50,000 units world wide for $500. Sony has declared that the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be available on certain retailer websites starting August 24, 2018.

500 million PlayStation consoles sold is a huge landmark for Sony, especially since the number not only represents the line of systems as being a sales success story, but also how the company's persistence with and loyalty to the brand and its fan base through both highs and lows can lead to prosperity. With this being the case, Sony has also made a few "extra special" 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro units with serial numbers on copper plates commemorating significant PlayStation moments, with one being 09995 – the U.S. Launch Date of the original PlayStation on September 9, 1995.

Bearing all of this in mind, it's attention to little details like the nods to PlayStation's history and the appreciation of its fan base with the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro that have helped Sony keep its commanding presence in the gaming industry for all these years. With this being the case, it will be interesting to see what Sony brings to the table with the PlayStation 5.
