Sony has named a new head of Sony Santa Monica, the developer of PS4 exclusive God of War. The game broke a PS4 exclusive sales record under former boss Shannon Studstill and the new head of the developer could be hard-pushed to do one better.

In a statement to IGN, Sony confirms that Yumi Yang, who has been with PlayStation for 19 years, will now be leading Sony Santa Monica. The news comes after Google announced that it is setting up a new Google Stadia game developer in Playa Vista, California, which will be led by Sony Santa Monica's former boss, Shannon Studstill. Sony speaks very highly of Studstill in its statement, saying that Sony Santa Monica "masterfully reinvented itself and its greatest franchise," God of War, under her leadership. Studstill, who also helped to found the developer, also supported the smaller teams of games like Journey and The Unfinished Swan.

Studstill may be a difficult leader to follow, but it seems that Yang could also be a great studio head. Sony says that Yang has an "extensive background in product development and heavy involvement across many of Santa Monica Studio’s biggest games" and her "project management prowess and meticulous oversight" is one reason that the game did so well. The reviews of God of War were all incredibly positive, and if this was partly because of Yang's project management, few fans would have an issue with Sony Santa Monica's main role changing hands.

It's unclear what Sony Santa Monica is now developing, but there have been rumors that it is making two games for PS5. Sony Santa Monica is one of Sony's most popular developers and two games from the company could really help to sell the PS5. These haven't been officially announced but fans are excited by the potential.

A Sony Santa Monica developer also teased a new game from the company and God of War game director Cory Barlog and fans have ideas for where God of War 2 could go. This doesn't mean that God of War 2 is one of the games that's in development there but it does make it more of a possibility.

Fans may not know what Sony Santa Monica is developing but things are about to get very exciting for Yang and the development team. The PS5's specs and its faster loading times mean that developers like Sony Santa Monica can make much bigger and better-looking games.

God of War is out now, exclusively on the PS4.
