For nearly two decades, the Spider-Man films have entertained audiences across the world and grossed billions of dollars. But the different film series and shared rights to star in Marvel movies have left people wondering if Spider-Man is technically part of the MCU or something greater. Recent news, however, has clarified that there is a new name which can be used to refer to these films.

Sony's studio answered in response to a question from IGN that the film universe should be called the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters. This title encompasses the original Spider-Man Trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man movies which starred Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield respectively. Additionally, Tom Holland's MCU films and spin-offs like Venom will also be included in the SPUMC.

The official comment by Sony finally settles the question raised earlier this week when a Twitter post used the term "Spider-Man Universe of Characters." Nonetheless, the SPUMC has been trademarked since 2019 when it was also noted that a Kraven the Hunter film is currently in development. But it is still unclear just how all the upcoming spin-offs will be connected to the latest Spider-Man movies even if they are confirmed to take place in the MCU like Morbius.

In the end, whether or not fans like the SPUMC name, it's clear that they'll need some time to get used to saying it out loud.
