Recently, it was announced that Sons of the Forest, a sequel to the online survival horror game The Forest by Endnight Games, will be coming in May 2022. Upon release, the first game was considered one of the best horror titles of 2018, with its impressive visuals, co-operative play, survival mechanics, and its overall intense atmosphere. A release trailer for the sequel was launched a few days ago, and while hardly anything is known about what the story will be about, fans have already been theorizing on how the first game's Timmy fits into it.
In the Sons of the Forest Subreddit, users have been speculating on one of the characters, specifically one that has been shown in the new trailer. It's been suggested that the new game could feature Timmy from The Forest, the son who goes missing and that players must rescue. One poster uploaded a screenshot from the recent trailer, pointing out that one of the characters has a scar on their right eyebrow. They posit that this hints at players surviving and fighting alongside the now-grown up child from the previous games, or possibly someone related to him.
Others in the subReddit feel the same way, with another user who goes by the alias cmputerguy posting another screenshot from the Sons of the Forest video. Similar to No_Woodpecker2718's thread, it's suggested that Timmy is in the game as an adult. The evidence the user presents has to do with one other character yelling "get down, son" and the supposed Timmy actually crouching. If true, this throws the theory out that players may take on the role of Timmy in Sons of the Forest, which was the original speculation when the first trailer dropped last year.
Of course, it's worth pointing out that these are just theories at this stage, though it is interesting that more than one person has made the suggestion. Horror fans are clearly excited about the sequel, with some questions from The Forest that Sons of the Forest may need to answer, such as who the cannibals actually are, or whether Timmy even survived in the first place.

As indie survival games on PC go, The Forest is probably one of the scariest. Although it still focuses on the survival aspects, many players will know the tense feeling of the titual wooded area becoming shrouded in nighttime and them being stalked by the cannibalistic inhabitants. It remains to be seen what the sequel will bring, though the trailer hints that it will still have base building and survival mechanics, but perhaps a little bit more projectile weaponry.
