The Forest was released in 2018 and garnered a legion of followers thanks to its immersive gameplay, terrifying enemies, and disturbing storyline. The game's popularity has continued to grow over the years, and many devoted fans eagerly awaited the release of its sequel, Sons of the Forest.

The title developed by Endnight Games was the most wishlisted title on Steam, and the forecasts have not been wrong: the survival horror game has sold more than two million copies in its first 24 hours. This is a huge success that makes it a strong candidate to become the Elden Ring of 2023.

Sons of The Forest

Sons of the Forest, the sequel to the popular survival horror game The Forest, has become a milestone by selling more than two million copies on Steam alone. Endnight Games itself has confirmed the figure through its official social network accounts.

The fact that Sons of the Forest has managed to sell such an incredible number of copies in such a short period of time confirms that the hype was there. It makes sense considering the premises of AI-governed companions, a huge map, and dynamic seasons in Sons of the Forest. And it seems that the game has not only sold very well but has managed to exceed expectations, given the vast majority of reviews speak highly of Ednight Games' title.

Millions of players loved The Forest's proposal, and the users themselves were aware that its sequel was going to be more ambitious. The original title reached five million in approximately six months, and even if the sequel's sales pace slows down a bit in the coming days or weeks, it is on track to far surpass the sales of its predecessor.

In fact, the new installment is very likely to become one of the best-selling games of the year. In 2022, the best-selling title was Elden Ring, which went on to sell 20 million copies in one year. Having sold two million in just 24 hours, Sons of the Forest could very well follow in the footsteps of From Softwer's video game. Although it has a tough competitor that already has more than 12 million copies sold since its release, Hogwarts Legacy, and could eventually surpass even the two combined, or at least surpass the milestone of 20 million copies.

Sons of the Forest’s release has had an almost unprecedented magnitude, because although Hogwarts Legacy may sell more copies, the horror video game has not had a promotional campaign even close to that of Avalanche Software's game. Moreover, when Hogwarts Legacy came out on Steam many players had already bought it, taking a lot of pressure off the servers. Instead, Sons of the Forest arrives in Early Access, and it was not even clear what the final price would be. The developers have chosen this type of release to avoid a new delay, also motivated by the success of their first Early Access experience.

The developers at Endnight Games chose to publish the game in its current state in order to develop it little by little, meaning that Sons of the Forest will be updated over time on Steam. The studio still has to improve some aspects such as performance, but both optimization patches and additions will be coming over the next few weeks. In fact, once players start the game, they will see a counter of the time remaining for the next patch to be released.

Considering that Sons of the Forest is only available on Steam, seeing it sell over two million copies in just a day bodes very well for its future. In fact, Elden Ring sold 20 million copies total across all of its launch platforms, making the case for Sons of the Forest to eventually surpass it even more bizarre.

Sons of the Forest is available now in early access for PC.
