While Sega officially retired its last console twenty years ago this month, many gamers who owned the forward thinking Dreamcast in its heyday never really let go. Of course, the Sonic franchise has had a long life since Sega console exclusivity ended, but a Redditor has noticed that Sonic Team isn't so shy about about referencing the good old days now that the blue blur appears on Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft consoles.

Reddit user GetRektBRAWLSTARS noticed the easter egg while playing through Sonic Unleashed. The game's opening sequence shows the infamous scientist launching a Chaos Canon and gives players a quick glimpse into the inner workings of his famous Eggmobile. It is there it becomes apparent that the good doctor is not waiting on the rumoured Dreamcast mini. He still has his original Dreamcast, and apparently brings it everywhere.

Sonic fans can spot the Dreamcast tucked just to the left of Dr. Eggman's control panel as he points to the sky. Of course, Sonic Unleashed is itself over ten years old, but with the Dreamcast receiving new games even after 20 years, Dr. Eggman would hopefully have been wise enough to hold onto the system since facing off against Sonic's canine form.

Indeed, Sega fans saw a slow stream of new game releases on the system over the years since official support ended in 2001, but there are also a ton of pre-2001 goodies that still hold up today. There are the obvious Sonic games, but the Dreamcast is also home to many beloved games that are not hedgehog related in the slightest, and the fact that Dr. Eggman owns the system goes to show that it's not just fans of the blue blur who can enjoy Sega's final console.
