When the first trailer dropped for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, fans were quick to voice their displeasure for Sonic's look in the film. The backlash to Sonic's design in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was so severe that the filmmakers decided to go back to the drawing board, delaying the movie by a few months so that they could redesign the character to look more like his video game counterpart. No official images of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign exists at this point, but an advertisement appears to confirm a previous leak.

An image of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign leaked online recently, showing a take on Sonic that was much more like fans would expect. Now a standee photographed in a lobby at an undisclosed location appears to confirm that leak. It shows the same version of Sonic as seen in the previous leak, so it appears as though that leak was legitimate, assuming that this standee hasn't also been faked somehow.

It seems as though many fans will be happy with the Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign. However, others were turned off by the trailer for other reasons. Some have expressed concern that the film will bet yet another video game movie adaptation flop, and considering the movie industry's history with adapting games, that's a very legitimate concern.

Compared to other video game movies, though, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie does appear to be embracing the source material, for the most part. Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik has gotten particular praise, and Ben Schwartz appears to be doing a solid job as the titular Sonic. Some aren't sold on the combination of live-action and animation, though we'll have to reserve our final judgments until the movie hits theaters.

In the meantime, it's possible that the images appearing of Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign could be a sign that a new trailer is set to drop sooner rather than later. Considering the severe backlash to the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer, it will be interesting to see how fans react to the redesign look. It will also be exciting to see how this version of Sonic looks in action, so hopefully we don't have to wait long.

Sonic the Hedgehog premieres on February 14, 2020.
