The first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was met with widespread criticism online, largely thanks to Sonic's look. Fans did not respond well to Sonic's appearance in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and in fact, the backlash was so severe that the filmmakers ultimately decided to redesign the speedy hedgehog.

We still haven't seen the official redesign for Sonic in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, but YouTuber Artur Baranov has provided his own take on it that is actually pretty impressive. Baranov has recut the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer with a cartoony, classic take on the character, including his signature gloves, shoes, and more.

Whether or not the official Sonic redesign looks anything like Baranov's Sonic remains to be seen. It's unclear how far the filmmakers are going to go when it comes to redesigning Sonic, but we do have a hint that they will at least be adding the character's trademark white gloves to the film.

The possibility of Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog movie getting his white gloves is based on an image tweeted out by the film's director. When it was announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was delayed to February 2020, the director included a drawing of a sign being held by a white-gloved Sonic, which has largely fueled the speculation.

With the Sonic the Hedgehog movie now quite a ways off, it's hard to say when we will see the official redesign. In the meantime, it's likely that fans of the hedgehog will continue making their own fan-made takes on the character. Not all of them will be quite as elaborate as Baranov's work with this recut trailer, but most of them will probably be quite a bit more detailed than PewDiePie's Sonic the Hedgehog drawing, at least.

When we do see the Sonic the Hedgehog redesign, it will be interesting to see just how much the character has changed from the initial trailer, and if the filmmakers took more inspiration from Sonic's video game appearance.

Sonic the Hedgehog will premiere in theaters worldwide on February 14, 2020.
