Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been nervously awaiting the full reveal of Sonic's full appearance since Paramount Studios began teasing him several months ago. Remade in computer graphics, Sonic's new look has left fans divided, but it appears that the wait is now over, as images featuring what's rumored to be Sonic the Hedgehog's full movie look have leaked.

Multiple images of Sonic have leaked from what's likely to be internal branding material for the film, spoiling the reveal but letting Sonic the Hedgehog fans start coping with the changes. It's possible that a full Sonic reveal is coming soon and that some branding material slipped by, or that an advertising campaign is approaching and this branding material is associated with it. Hopefully, more information will be coming soon.

There are two images in total. The first is a small image of Sonic facing the camera and pointing, the second is a much larger image featuring Sonic in what might be his running pose with his arms spread wide. Both images include the same Sonic, smirking on one side of his mouth, nose pointed towards the sky, large green eyes, and a richly detailed forest of blue, spiky hair.

The effort that went into bringing Sonic the Hedgehog over from cartoons and video games to realistic CG is clear. The new images show that Sonic retains both his trademark white gloves and the unique trait that makes it seem as if he has one gigantic, conjoined eye. To accomplish this, the CG company has covered Sonic's hands and the space between his eyes in white fur. It's not quite the same, but it shows that remaining true to Sonic's original look has been kept a priority. Nevermind his previously confirmed green eyes and red shoes.

No matter how much effort went into keeping Sonic as authentic as possible, the new look is going to be embraced by some and rejected by others. The new Sonic looks completely different than the cartoon version of the hedgehog. And to say that movie-Sonic falls into the uncanny valley, the uncomfortable divide between realistic and unrealistic would be accurate. With that said, the same things were said about the modern live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies and those proved to be impressive successes. Time will tell if the Sonic the Hedgehog movie well fare similarly.

The Sonic the Hedgehog film is planned for release November 8, 2019.
