With the season changing to fall, the big game releases are just around the corner. Gears of War 3 will be out next week, Batman: Arkham City will arrive in October, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will follow in November. We can now add Sonic Generations to that list of big fall video game launches, as the official release date has been revealed.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Sonic Generations will be available on November 1st. Folks in Europe will be getting it on November 4th, and they’ll also be able to get a special collector’s edition on the same date. The 3DS currently doesn’t have an official release date, and is only scheduled under “late fall.”
Sonic Generations serves as a celebration of all things Sonic the Hedgehog. As its release marks the 20th anniversary of the franchise, it contains a number of levels from the previous games. Its story features current Sonic traveling back in time to meet up with his younger self, the Classic Sonic we all know and love, and the two of them team up to repair the damaged timeline.
Players will be able to use both the Classic and Modern Sonics, allowing them to play in both 2D and 3D versions of some of the most memorable levels in Sonic history. Naturally, the original Green Hill Zone has been given a makeover, as well as fan favorites Chemical Plant Zone and City Escape. Familiar bosses will be returning as well, most notably, Sonic’s clone Metal Sonic.
The 3DS version of Generations will not only feature exclusive levels, but also a two-player versus mode, similar to the ones from Sonic 2 and Sonic 3. It’s not currently known what levels will appear exclusively on the 3DS version, or all of the levels on any version for that matter. The demo hack back in June may have shown part or all of the levels, but there has been no official level list for Sonic Generations as of yet.
With plenty of stuff that will satisfy fans of both old and new Sonic, Sonic Generations is sure to be a fast-selling title once it hits its release date.
Will you be snagging a copy of Sonic Generations? What memorable Sonic levels do you hope to see?
Sonic Generations will arrive November 1st on Xbox 360 and PS3, November 4th in Europe. The 3DS release date is currently unknown.
