With Sonic’s 20th anniversary taking place yesterday, in celebration, a demo of Sonic Generations was released. Now fans have a taste of what’s to come later this year – when the game arrives. However, some eager gamers may have got more than just a taste of Sonic Generations, as a group may have successfully hacked into the demo – obtaining plenty of information on what will appear in the full game.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time a demo was hacked in order to reveal unannounced information (we’re looking at you Mortal Kombat). The list of information was found on a forum post on the Sonic Retro forums, which detailed a number of levels and bosses that would appear, as well as a bit of DLC information. Of course, the credibility is debatable, since no proof was shown beyond the list itself. The post didn’t stay on there for very long, as Sega had it pulled for “copyright reasons” – but other sites had already copied and reported on the information.
The list specifically names the “classic” stages, so it may be incomplete. Here are the stages, DLC, and bosses mentioned:
- Green Hill Zone
- Chemical Plant Zone
- Sky Sanctuary Zone
- Speed Highway
- City Escape
- Seaside Hill
- Crisis City
- Rooftop Run
- Planet Wisp
- Casino Night Zone
- Metal Sonic
- “Death Egg”
- Perfect Chaos
- Egg Dragoon
- Boss LastBoss (Time Eater) (name of the file)
From what we’ve seen, callbacks from as far back as the first game all the way to Sonic Colors will be included in Sonic Generations. The bosses are all of the big names from the series, and the levels chosen are the most easily recognizable from their respective games. However, the list seems a bit short, so that leaves quite a few questions.
If this story has any truth to it, it could mean a number of things. Maybe the information only focuses on some of the stages, which would be supported by the list calling them the “classic” stages. Maybe this was all the information the hackers were able to get, and there’s still more that we don’t know about. Or maybe this is really it.
Do you think there is any truth to this leak? What other bosses or levels would you like to see?
Sonic Generations arrives this holiday season for the Xbox 360, PS3, and 3DS.
