Sonic Frontiers has more than one thing in common with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The individual maps all have a striking resemblance to BotW, and several elements draw a comparison to Link’s open-world adventure. The musical score across the various maps in Sonic Frontiers also gives off heavy Breath of the Wild vibes.

The most obvious Zelda comparison are the Koco. In Sonic Frontiers, players will come across several of these little stone critters. Just like the Korok seeds, Koco must be found around the map. They can appear anywhere but tend to favor the ruined buildings and stone columns dotted around the islands of Sonic Frontiers.

The Koco seem to be a part of the mystery that Sonic is trying to uncover while he rescues his friends. With Sage being mostly unhelpful when questioned about things, players must progress in the story and collect Koco to reveal the truth behind the cute stone babies. The Koco can then be returned to the Elder Koco in exchange for a boost in speed or an increased ring-carrying capacity. Elder Koco is not alone in boosting Sonic’s stats, as he has a counterpart elsewhere on the map named Hermit Koco.

Hermit Koco will take any of the seeds found either fishing, defeating enemies, or discovered by destroying breakable objects. These two fruits have different purposes and will increase a separate stat. The spiky seeds, which are red, will increase Sonic’s power, while the smooth seeds, which are blue, will increase his defensive stat.

An easy way to find both seeds quickly is to locate Big the Cat. As a reward for tokens won while fishing, players can choose to trade them in for both seed types.

However, players must first find the Elder or Hermit Koco to upgrade Sonic’s abilities. There are several across each of the maps, and later they can also be used as fast travel points.
