Despite the year-long wait for Sonic Frontiers to be released, more news keeps slowly trickling in. After going a few months with just a teaser trailer, Sonic fans got a taste of what the game looks like in-engine, and that the next Sonic game is indeed open-world. The latest tidbit of news about Sonic Frontiers, however, deals with who will be playing the iconic characters.

Earlier this year, news broke out that Roger Craig Smith, the latest voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, would be stepping away from the role. Many fans were confused, especially since this year marked the franchise's 30th anniversary, meaning the celebrations were about to be underway with a new voice behind Sega's mascot. Thankfully, Roger announced he would be staying as Sonic after all just in time for Sonic Frontiers' Sonic Central reveal.

As part of an official YouTube Livestream on the Sonic the Hedgehog channel, it's been confirmed that Roger Craig Smith is not the only voice actor reprising a role for Sonic Frontiers. Colleen O'Shaughnessey has been revealed to still be Tails, even after providing the voice for the fox in the upcoming movie. Mike Pollock has also been confirmed to still be playing Dr. Eggman as well. In addition, Cindy Robinson is also still playing Amy Rose, despite how she also said she would be departing the series alongside Roger.

This not only helps confirm voice actors but also paints a picture as to what characters will be in Sonic Frontiers. Sonic and Eggman were confirmed through a plot summary of the game, but Tails has yet to be seen. Through Colleen's involvement, this means Sonic's best friend is sure to appear in some form or another. Amy has been in a curious situation where voice actor tweets and official trailer uploads had revealed she was the voice in the Game Awards Sonic trailer, but those have since been deleted. As of this Livestream, it's been confirmed once and for all that the voice talking to Sonic is Cindy Robinson's Amy.

Unfortunately, alongside this news, the presenter of the Livestream also states that more Frontiers news will have to be "next year's surprise," meaning not much should be shared until closer to the game's release. While this makes sense, as the game is due next holiday season, it might be hard for some Sonic fans to wait after two teasers. Thankfully for them, 2022 is full of plenty of Sonic events, meaning fans may not be kept waiting long.

Sonic Frontiers is set to release on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in holiday 2022.
