Sonic Frontiers has an official newsletter, and it's offering free DLC to those that subscribe to it. While newsletters for games have been rather scarce recently, with social media being a faster way to get content to the audience, some franchises have stuck with it. Pokemon is one example, as it used to use a newsletter as a way to update fans across many multimedia projects with a reward of Mystery Gift Codes for those still subscribed. It seems like Sonic is taking notes from this model.

Fans first knew that DLC was coming to Sonic Frontiers with the reveal of the Japanese pre-order perks roughly two months ago. Sonic was revealed to be collaborating with Vtuber Korone Inugami to allow her fans to get special Korone-themed shoes and gloves for Sonic. While some fans thought the Japanese DLC was cute, it made some wonder if other forms of DLC would be made available. Not only are English-speaking fans getting DLC of their own, but it brings back a rather memorable accessory for Sonic.

If fans sign up for the Sonic Frontiers newsletter by January 31, 2023, then fans will receive an email as soon as the game hits shelves on November 8, 2022 for a code that unlocks a special cosmetic item of Sonic's Soap Shoes from Sonic Adventure 2. These particular shoes have been rather popular since their debut, and after twenty years, it seems Sonic will wear these special sneakers once more.

However, there's a catch for some fans. The Sonic Frontiers website states that this DLC will only be available in select regions. Thankfully, if the list of countries that appears upon signing up for the email list is anything to go by, a fair number of countries are eligible. In order for players to sign up to secure the code next month, all they need to do is sign up with their email, country of residence, birthday, and console of choice.

Many fans are sure to agree that this is the proper way to go with adding customization in Sonic games. In Sonic Colors: Ultimate, fans were allowed to accessorize the blue blur, but the items left a lot to be desired. A number of them were just Sonic's normal shoes and gloves in different colors. The most notable option in Colors: Ultimate was a skin based off of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, but that was only due to the electricity effect it came with. After being given these mediocre options, fans wished for the Soap Shoes or the shoes from Sonic Riders to make a return, and it seemed Sega listened very closely to that request.

Sonic Frontiers will launch on November 8, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
