During Sonic Frontiers players are able to unlock a number of powerful skills that improve Sonic's effectiveness in combat, allowing him to more easily handle the tougher enemies the Starfall Islands have to offer. In this guide players will find some of the most useful early skills, and some tips and tricks relating to those skills, which can aid players in combat.

Many of Sonic Frontiers' skills are of particular use during the game's boss fights, which require players to deal huge amounts of damage quickly in order to succeed, especially when the skills are chained together for greater effect and damage.

Air Trick

An excellent early pick, Air Trick is close to the top of the skill tree and allows Sonic to perform tricks in the air when launching off certain ramps and other objects. Performing tricks generates skill shards, which Sonic can then use to unlock even more skills, so picking this up early means players can grab tons of extra skill shards and gain access to the other skills much faster.

Sonic Boom

Another great early pick, Sonic Boom allows Sonic to hang in the air while launching pummeling shockwaves that deal a decent chunk of damage. This makes it ideal for attacking enemies whose moveset and/or fighting style makes them dangerous at close range. Picking this up early allows players an easy method of dealing extra damage from a distance, and makes for a fantastic move to make some distance when the enemy is preparing a counterattack.

Quick Cyloop

A fantastically useful skill when fighting many of the tougher enemies in the game is the Quick Cyloop. This allows Sonic to perform a Cyloop nearly instantly, as long as the Cyloop meter is blue. What makes this especially dangerous is that it can be used on Titan bosses during their boss fights to launch them into the air and trap them in place, opening them up to further attacks while rendering them helpless. (It's also worth noting that Titans often have ways to interrupt the Cyloop during their second phase, making this less effective during the second half of the boss fight)

Recovery Smash

Despite it being right at the bottom of the skill tree and costing 50 skill points to unlock, Recovery Smash is an excellent addition to Sonic's skillset that allows him to recover from getting knocked down almost immediately via a button prompt. This allows players to more easily recover from any hits taken in combat and launch right into a counterattack.

Sonic Frontiers is available for PS5, PC, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch.
