Since the early nineties, fans have long enjoyed the rebellious cast of characters on display in the numerous Sonic the Hedgehog games. Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnic, and the titular hedgehog himself, Sonic. Over the years, this gaming cast has naturally grown to include many new and recurring heroes and villains. Still, with the transition of time, this classic gaming franchise has branched out to other media formats producing some memorable comics and animations.

While often interlinked with the games and containing the familiar cast that fans all recognize, the many Sonic-based comic books and cartoon series available also include a range of other memorable characters that are not in the games. It is not unheard of for new figures to originate from other media formats, but in the case of the following characters, they're yet to make their video game debuts.

1 Antoine Depardieu

Sonic The Hedgehog Antoine Depardieu

A long-time admirer of Princess Sally, Antoine Depardieu is a member of the Mobian Squirrel-chipmunk Royal Guard who features in the 1993-1995 Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.

While he is a force for good and an adversary to Eggman, Depardieu proves to be a rival of Sonics due to their shared affection for Princess Sally.

2 Rotor The Walrus

Rotor The Walrus, is one of the main features in Sonic’s comic book crew. A key member of the so-called Knothole Freedom Fighters under Princess Acorn, he is a Mobian walrus whose skills as a mechanic are surpassed by none.

In later life, now named simply Rotor Walrus, he became a member of the Council of Acorns before resigning his post and establishing a new team of freedom fighters to combat the council’s corruption.

3 Dulcy The Dragon

Another member of the Knothole Freedom Fighters, Dulcy the Dragon has appeared in both comic books and the nineties Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. A big green dragon who, due to the wicked deeds of Dr. Robotnik, is one of the last remaining of her race.

With super strength, fiery breath, and a cool nose ring, Dulcy aided the team on many occasions before retiring to the Unknown Realm.

4 Snively

Sonic The Hedgehog Snively

A character whose name fits both his persona and behavior, Snively is an antagonist who works under his evil uncle, Dr. Robotnik. Predominantly featured in the 90’s Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, Snively, who assisted his uncle in overthrowing the Mobian King, also made an appearance in the Archie Comics series.

A character of immense intelligence and mechanical genius, Snively is treated like a slave by his uncle and really is an interestingly sad individual.

5 Ixis Naugus

A super strong sorcerer whose powers include a range of pyro, hydro, aero, and geokinesis skills to manipulate those he comes up against. Naugus has red eyes and features in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic books.

A person whose individual power rivals that of Dr. Robotnik, Naugus, who is the amalgamation of three ancient sorcerers, was twice defeated and trapped in The Void.

6 Ari the Ram

The good-natured horn-headed ram-in-human-form, Ari, is a 90’s Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon character who is the head of his own freedom-fighting brigade against Dr. Robotnik’s forces.

He is a fantastic pilot and has aided Sonic and the team with his Hover Unit on numerous occasions. He's also a deadly adversary whose skills in taking down Robotnik’s Swat-Bots are unrivaled.

7 King Maximilian Acorn

King Maximilian Acorn was the true-born legitimate ruler of the Kingdom of Acorn. The Mobian Squirrel-Chipmunk monarch was tricked by the wicked lead antagonist Dr. Ivo Robotnik, usurped and sent to the Zone of Silence.

Appearing in the 1990’s Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, this monarch has earned the unfortunate name, King Maximillian the Cursed due to the events that saw Robotnik conquer the kingdom.

8 Lupe Wolf

A Mobian wolf who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics from the nineties, this protagonist is an intriguing individual who was inspired by Princess Acorn.

Lupe is a member of both the Knothole Freedom Fighters and the formidable Wolfpack. Named after the Roman Goddess, she's a combat veteran and spear specialist whose skills definitely deserve a gaming debut.

9 Sir Charles "Chuck" Hedgehog

This 70 years young old timer is a genuinely pleasant addition to the annals of Sonic the Hedgehog. Chuck the Hedgehog, features in Sonic comic books and the two 90’s cartoons, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground.

As a veteran, Sir Charles has accomplished his fair share of exploits, earning his knighthood by protecting the Acorn Kingdom with his scientific genius.

10 Nicole the Holo-Lynx

This comic book-based hero is an intriguing addition to the Sonic cast and a game would certainly benefit from her appearance. An artificial intelligence that was created by Dr. Ellidy, Nicole is a trusted bodyguard of Princess Sally Acorn.

She's also a member of the Knothole Freedom fighters and a skilled computer hacker whose intellectual prowess is beyond that of her friends and her creator. When all's said and done, Nicole is a genuine asset to the team.

11 Chris Thorndyke

Chris Thorndyke is one of the most beloved Sonic the Hedgehog characters not to feature in any video game and one whose sole appearance comes in the 2003 cartoon, Sonic X.

Beginning life as an insecure kid from a wealthy background, Chris, with help from friends, develops into a selfless hero who aids and saves Sonic on numerous occasions.

12 Princess Sally Acorn

Sonic The Hedgehog Sally Acorn

Another character to feature in Sonic X, one whose history goes back to early comic books is Sally Acorn. A standout individual in her own right, with a well-fleshed-out storyline.

A member of the Mobian Squirrel-Chipmunk Royal Family, Princess Sally Alicia Acorn is a former rebel leader whose exploits involve a selfless sacrifice of her own free will to defeat Eggman’s World Roboticizer.
