Fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog series are buzzing with excitement thanks growing rumors of Sonic Adventure remakes being in development. If it turns out to be true, this could be perfect for fans of the blue hedgehog.

While it typically feels like there's a new Sonic the Hedgehog game every other year, the series has been strangely absent for some time now. Celebrating the series' 25th anniversary, fans were treated to Sonic Mania, an homage to earlier 2D games in the franchise. On the other hand, Sonic Forces received a much more mixed reception, leaving fans of Sonic's 3D adventures with less to celebrate with. Now that the series is on its 30th anniversary, remakes of the Sonic Adventure titles would be a perfect way to appease fans of modern Sonic.

The Return of Sonic's Friends

The topic of Sonic the Hedgehog's friends tends to come with mixed opinions. Some fans will argue that Sonic should be the sole playable character in all Sonic games, but others connect more the surrounding cast in a Sonic game. Unfortunately for those fans, Sonic has been the only playable character since 2008's Sonic Unleashed. A Sonic Adventure remake would break this streak.

Playing as multiple characters with unique gameplay began with Sonic Adventure, so it would be fitting that Sonic's friends make a major return for a Sonic Adventure remake. There's no doubt however, that if they were to return, their gameplay would need some of the most improvement. Many of the characters aside from Sonic took on a much slower form of gameplay, with some characters (Big the Cat), feeling like their gameplay came from an entirely different game. If the remake really is taking on a new gameplay style, it would be interesting to see Sonic's friends worked into the new modern style for the first time.

A More Detailed Story

Something many fans complain about when it comes to modern Sonic games are the game's stories. Many of the new Sonic games take on a much lighter tone, often ignoring established events and character traits featured in past games. Even Sonic Forces, a game that used a dark premise and all of Sonic's past villains, felt rather light in terms of story content. A game that brings back the focused story in the way that the Sonic Adventure titles did would be a breath of fresh air.

The original Sonic Adventure featured a very ambitious story, told from six different perspectives. While it did have some padding to it, a streamlined version of Sonic Adventure's otherwise solid plot. To see it reworked with the visuals of a modern Sonic title would likely be very exciting for Sonic fans.

Sega hasn't made any formal announcements in regards to a Sonic Adventure remake, so these rumors could always end up being false. Sega has confirmed however that there are multiple games planned to release as part of Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary, giving fans hope. Fans are eager to see the future of Sonic the Hedgehog and a return to Sonic Adventure blended with the advancements of more recent Sonic titles would ensure that Sonic's future is going to be bright.
