The Game Awards ended up being quite an exciting show for the Sonic fans who decided to tune in. Those that did got a first look Sonic Frontiers, the next Sonic game to be released late next year. They also got to see the exciting trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the highly anticipated second Sonic live-action movie. While the title may be reminiscent of the second video game adventure that Sonic had, one fan has taken inspiration from the movie trailer to remake a scene from it in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Despite the second film's focus on introducing Sonic's best friend, Tails, many series regulars have noticed that the movie seems to be borrowing story beats from Sonic 3. Not only does the movie feature an icy landscape reminiscent of Ice Cap Zone, but Knuckles the Echidna makes his silver screen debut in the upcoming movie as well as he works with Robotnik.

The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer introduces Knuckles with impressive flare as fans watch him halt one of Sonic's signature moves, and then throw him to the ground. Many gamers have noticed this is rather reminiscent of Sonic 3's intro cutscene, which has Knuckles literally punch Sonic out of his Super Sonic form. Artist VAdaPEGA saw the similarity and managed to edit the cutscene to reflect how it's meant to play out in the film.

Even in 2D, Knuckles managing to stop one of Sonic's best abilities just to practically slam dunk him into the ground still looks rather impressive. While some fans could argue that VAdaPEGA may have only done sprite and video editing work, a few "bloopers" he shared with fans in the replies to his original post show that he really did edit the original game with new sprites for the video, as one attempt lead Hyper Sonic's flashing effect to a glitch in an interesting way.

While VAdaPEGA could have gone with a possible easier route by using video editing instead of modifying the game itself, it shows plenty of dedication to his craft by doing so.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits theaters on April 8th, 2022.
