Paramount has released new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 posters that spotlight the colorful lead characters, including Knuckles and Tails.

Ben Schwartz makes his speedy return as the voice of the blue-quilled, quick-witted Sonic, while Idris Elba lends his menacing baritone to the raging red roughhouse Knuckles. Colleen O'Shaughnessey reprises her 12-year role as the voice of the plucky young fox Tails. Last and certainly not least, Jim Carrey bursts back onto the big screen in his critically-acclaimed role of Sonic's arch-nemesis Dr. Robotnik.

The latest posters for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film have been posted onto the movie's official Twitter account. On display are the iconic gaming trio of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails the Fox, and Knuckles the Echidna, respectively racing, soaring, and punching their way towards the big screen in a colorful blaze of glory. The posters not only bring the primary-colored characters to the forefront of fans' minds, but also serve to put a spotlight on the cast members lending their voices to the trio.

While Sonic 2 serves as a triumphant return for both Schwartz and Carrey, this is Elba's first foray into the budding Sonic film franchise. He has nonetheless made a resounding first impression as Knuckles, with critics and fans alike praising the deep, resonating voice of the pugilistic powerhouse. The film also marks O'Shaughnessey making the transition from her gaming roots to the silver screen as Tails, Sonic's iconic two-tailed sidekick.

This collection of actors really brings to forefront the true "power" of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, that being the voices and overall talent of the cast. While there is the energy Schwartz provides, Elba and his intensity, and Carrey being as bombastic and quirky as ever, there is something to be said about Mrs. O'Shaughnessey. The latter is certainly experienced in her own right. However, at the same time, she brings a sense of warmth and familiarity to the cast, fans, and the movie as a whole with her body of work as Tails in the Sonic the Hedgehog gaming franchise.

There's no doubt that there is a great deal of pressure on the shoulders of the cast and crew of Sonic 2, what with the critical success of the first movie and fans' high expectations for the sequel, particularly in terms of Sonic Easter Eggs and overall adherence to the lore of the original gaming franchise. That said, these latest movie posters are rather symbolic: They are bold, colorful, and in-your-face, the same sort of attitude that benefited Sonic in the first film and will no doubt aide him and his companions in the impending sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes to theaters on April 8th, 2022.
