In a setting reminiscent of the prehistoric wilderness, the brand new virtual reality survival game Song in the Smoke has been confirmed for PlayStation VR, coming later this year.

From indie game developer 17-Bit comes a new, unsettling, survival horror title. In the past, 17-Bit created the turn-based tactics game Skulls of the Shogun and a shooter known as Galak-Z: The Dimensional. Coming soon, in Song in the Smoke, players are pitting against the wilderness in a true survival experience, being forced to spark fire from flint, using torches as a source of light, and hunting beasts using a bow and arrow.

In Song in the Smoke, players must survive the night, and according to the breakdown on the PlayStation Blog, the game is meant to be played multiple times. In this upcoming VR title from 17-Bit, players will battle with dilemmas, such as crafting a new weapon and doing away with their old one, or keeping with their faithful weapon instead of innovating.

Adding to the stress of this survival game, Song in the Smoke is exclusively in VR, making avoiding beasts, finding new camping spots, and gathering resources all the more terrifying. According to the trailer, it also looks like 17-Bit's game will feature a supernatural element with some kind of strange monster and mythical mysteries to uncover.

Song in the Smoke employs the work of designer Katsuya Terada, an illustrator known for his character and world designs in The Legend of Zelda series and Tekken.

Song in the Smoke is coming to PlayStation VR in 2021.
