The long wait for SOCOM 4's release is almost over and Sony wants to get everyone in the mood for the game by revealing some new information about gameplay not previously announced and a special edition of the game that could really be worth it for those who haven't been brought in by the Move just yet.

The first bit of news regards some Socom 4 gameplay that hasn't been revealed until now. For certain missions of the game, players will take control of "45," a female South Korean 707th covert operations expert. Her role is as team's primary reconnaissance, sneaking in at night to sabatoge enemy operations.

45 will have access to silenced weapons, and a stealth meter will alert players to her visibility level as she sneaks around hostile forces. Several new SOCOM 4 screenshots of 45 show her being decidedly devious:

The next reveal comes in the form of the SOCOM 4 Full Deployment Edition which will be released alongside SOCOM 4's standard edition. The special edition box will come with a whole armory of goodies which include:

  • SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs video game on Blu-ray disc
  • PlayStation Move Motion Controller
  • PlayStation Move Navigation Controller
  • PlayStation Move sharp shooter
  • PlayStation Eye Camera

The bundle will ship with an MSRP of $149.99, a price that offers a savings of about 30% over the of all the components purchased seperately. This should ease the burden for anyone wanting to get into playing shooters with the Move and the Sharp Shooter but aren't up for making the full (and very expensive) financial investment required to do so.

At a recent Killzone 3 press event, several of us at Game Rant we were able to try out the sharp shooter for Killzone 3 and it really impressed. An intuitive button layout and smart control setup made using it to shoot baddies a breeze. The precision of the Move Motion Controller made sure that every shot was right on target. Hopefully, SOCOM 4's controls will impress just as much and make this truly a bundle to pick up.

Gamers who pre-order their copy of SOCOM 4 at participating retailers will be gifted with two unique slug-powered shotguns, one for the Spec Ops team and one for the Insurgent team. Gamestop pre-orders will additionally include the exclusive 'Abandoned' Suppression map, a direct throwback to the map of the same name from SOCOM and SOCOM 2.

Next week will also have its share of big news as the dates for SOCOM 4's multiplayer beta are going to be revealed along with a few other surprises.

SOCOM 4 will be bringing tactical combat back to consoles on April 19, 2011 when it's released exclusively for the PS3 console.
