Fortnite is incredibly popular, but despite this, it's no stranger to criticism. It is consistently one of the most viewed games on Twitch, but it also draws a lot of flak from some gamers that feel as though it is primarily for kids. It seems that this subset of gamers aren't the only ones that aren't fans of the battle royale, as soccer boss Jose Mourinho has some choice words to share about the phenomenon as well. The statement was made during an introductory video where Mourinho shares his thoughts on a variety of topics in a lightning round format.

In spite of all the criticism it receives, Fortnite continues to grown and become a prevalent part of gaming culture. Between massive collaborations with the likes of Marvel and DC, a steadily increasing player base, and constant updates, it seems as though Fortnite is around for the long haul. This comes as bad news to Mourinho, who isn't too fond of it.

When asked what his thoughts on Fornite are, he responded with a single word: "Nightmare." From then, he did go on to elaborate on his position, claiming that "Football (Soccer) players stay up all night playing that sh*t, and the next day they have a game." While Fortnite has certainly endured harsher criticism from fans, this is a much more public and high profile denunciation of the game. It feels especially strange in an era where more and more professional athletes are sharing their love for video games.

On the bright side, fans of Fortnite don't seem bothered by his comments, with most finding it funny more than anything. There are also a good number of Fortnite detractors that share his sentiment, but the focus seems to be on other aspects of the video. Ironically, he also indirectly confirms that a number of his players must enjoy playing the battle royale, something that many fans probably suspected but couldn't be certain of. As video games become more and more prevalent in sports and pop culture, it will be interesting to see what role a controversial title like Fortnite plays in leading the charge.

Players can view the full video above, and the bit about Fortnite happens very early on. It isn't long by any means, only a few seconds, but Mourinho does manage to stir up some controversy in that short amount of time. So far there haven't been any official responses from members of his team or other high profile soccer bosses.

Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
