A game that launched as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass now gets a PS Plus Premium trial. PlayStation Plus transitioned into a three-tiered service in June 2022 as Sony now offers gamers a choice between Essential, Extra, and Premium. PS Plus Essential works the same way as the previous model, while Extra gives users access to a massive catalog of PS5 and PS4 titles.PS Plus Premium offers other benefits, such as the ability to download select PS1, PS2, and PSP games, but trials are probably its more unique feature. Premium members can download time-limited trials for some games and play them for a set duration. Some titles, like Horizon Forbidden West and Cyberpunk 2077 are available for five hours, while others can only be played for two or three. Sony has now added a new trial for a game released earlier in 2022.The game in question is Sniper Elite 5, and PlayStation Plus Premium members can play it for up to an hour as a part of their subscription. Sniper Elite 5 received generally favorable reviews when it came out in May 2022. Like its predecessor, Sniper Elite 5 features several missions on large open maps and gives players the freedom to complete objectives in various ways.
It’s strange that Sony added only a one-hour trial for Sniper Elite 5, but it’s probably enough to give users an idea about how the game feels to play. It isn’t the only title to offer a relatively short time limit, as PS Plus Premium members also received a one-hour trial for Ghostwire: Tokyo. While the duration differs between games, trials are still a great way for users to get hands-on experience and make an informed purchasing decision.
Coincidentally, Sniper Elite 5 launched as a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass. So, Sony’s offer of an hour of gameplay pales in comparison to the full game being available on day one on Microsoft’s service. Titles like Deathloop and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Premium, so perhaps Sony could have added the full version of Sniper Elite 5 to the catalog as well.
Sony is yet to reveal the PS Plus Extra and Premium lineups for December 2022. However, the free monthly games will be available from December 6, as PlayStation Plus members get access to Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout at no extra cost.
Sniper Elite 5 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
