The Mission 4 kill challenge in Sniper Elite 5 instructs players to kill Ehrlich using a rat bomb, and those that complete it will unlock the Machine Pist.44 SMG. While obtaining a rat bomb is quite straightforward, as one can be found behind the Resistance Fighter at the beginning of the level, using it to dispatch Ehrlich can be a bit confusing. This guide is here to address that confusion and provide details on how to use a rat bomb and complete the War Factory kill challenge in Sniper Elite 5.

Sniper Elite 5: How to Use Rat Bomb

The first step toward using a rat bomb is to sneak into the building where Matthaus Ehrlich resides. Upon entering this building, Sniper Elite 5 players will see the outlines of several white rats on the ground, and they should approach one and interact with it to plant the bomb, making sure to remain undetected. When that is done, fans should simply wait for Ehrlich to finish his conversation with Dietrich, at which point he should wander around the building, locate the rat, and detonate the bomb himself.

To note, if a player is unable to kill Ehrlich using this intended method, there are a couple of others options that they can pursue. The first is to plant the rat bomb near the entrance to the building, whistle to catch Ehrlich's attention, and then stand just outside. From this position, sniper video game fans should be able to shoot at the rat, and detonating it when the target is nearby should eliminate him and complete the kill challenge.

The other option is to engage Ehrlich directly and pacify him. Players can then carry the unconscious character into the room with the rat outlines and place him on the ground next to one. From there, third-person shooter fans should simply set the bomb, get some distance from it, and then detonate the explosive with a ranged weapon to kill the target and unlock the weapon.

While players now have details on several ways to approach the Mission 4 kill challenge, some fans may find that they are still unable to complete the task at hand. Indeed, there seems to be some inconsistency with how Ehrlich interacts with rat bombs, and their explosions will occasionally leave him incapacitated rather than dead. It is possible that this will be addressed in a future patch to this day one Xbox Game Pass game, but, for now, players may need to try all the options that are available to them.

Sniper Elite 5 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
