Despite the fact that Nintendo announced there would be "significantly more units" of the SNES Classic Edition available than the amount of NES Classic Editions put out for consumers, pre-orders have already been filled quite quickly. With this being the case, going rates for the Big N's next retro console on the resale market – eBay in particular – have reached some rather insanely expensive prices, as the demand for the system is still high.

As of writing, the lowest offer going at the moment for the SNES Classic on eBay for those who want to buy it outright is $275, which happens to be a whopping $195 more than the console's original asking price of $80. When it comes to the most expensive listing for Nintendo's retro system, the highest costing unit is selling for roughly $500, and that doesn't even include all of the taxes and shipping costs within the full order.

For those unaware, the SNES Classic comes with two wired controllers for instant multiplayer accessibility, allowing fans to jump right into the action of built-in games such as Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting. Speaking of games, the retro console includes 21 in all, and it even includes a title that's technically new, Star Fox 2, the never-before-released 1995 sequel to the original Star Fox. So, taking all of this into account, it makes sense as to why demand for the system is so high.

Although there are some who pre-ordered the SNES Classic that have the sole intent of reselling it with ridiculously expensive markups through online marketplaces like eBay, one can at least take solace in the fact that they may eventually be able to snag one at launch for the regular retail price – that is, if Nintendo manages to replenish the stock by day one. Even so, gamers will still need to act fast when the system's on sale once more, as the Big N could decide to discontinue the SNES Classic at a moment's notice, much like it did with the discontinuation NES Classic.

The SNES Classic Edition is set to release on September 29, 2017.
