Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins is an upcoming prequel movie from Paramount Pictures that details the origins of one of G.I. Joe's most famous characters. This will be the first live-action movie in the franchise since the original G.I. Joe films, with the most recent release being in 2013, which was G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

This Snake Eyes featurette displays Henry Golding and the rest of the cast going through rigorous training in order to become the super soldiers fans know from the G.I. Joe comics and old school television series. The fight scenes, which were teased in the Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins trailers, occur in a variety of action-based set pieces. Expect a lot of sword fighting, whether it be on rooftops, in the middle of the storm, at the dojo, or even on the highway in a high-speed car chase.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins sees the titular character being welcomed into a Japanese clan known as the Arashikage after he saves the life of one of their members. After arriving in Japan, the Arashikage teaches Snake Eyes a multitude of combat skills that helps him become the ninja warrior fans know today. The Arashikage also gives him something intangible: a home, which is something he's been searching for long before the events of the film.

Another exciting feature of this movie is the inclusion of other prominent G.I. Joe characters such as Storm Shadow, Scarlett, and even Baroness. Expect to see the fallout of Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes' relationship in this film as it develops into the vengeful never-ending rivalry that many know and love.

Snake Eyes is by far one of the more interesting characters in the G.I. Joe lore. The television shows and comics had a plethora of characters who the movies touched on a little bit, but for the most part, didn't really dive into it. If the Snake Eyes film does well then maybe fans will get to see other movies that show the origins of the characters or perhaps even a soft reboot of the live-action film.

Many are also not expecting much as based on the last G.I. Joe films, which came and then went away. Some fans online are worried about the director and screenwriter based on their track record with their previous work. Only time will tell and since this is a prequel, there is room for it to grow and change. Fans should keep expectations tamed but also go into it with an open mind.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins will be in theaters on July 23rd, 2021.
