Hi-Rez Studios’ popular free-to-play MOBA SMITE lets players take control of a lot of gods and heroes ripped from real-world mythology and folklore (not to mention popular series like Avatar: The Last Airbender), and it will soon be adding another.

Just a few weeks after the Lovecraftian terror Cthulhu was added to SMITE, Hi-Rez confirmed today that its next playable character will be Tsukuyomi, the Japanese God of the Moon. Tsukuyomi will become the game’s 111th deity in August, making him SMITE’s third Japanese god after Amaterasu and Susano.

The announcement came with a new cinematic trailer that centers around the conflict between Tsukuyomi and his sister, the sun goddess Amaterasu. “Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu hold more than a grudge against each other,” Hi-Rez said in its press release. “This incredible trailer shows how irreconcilable the God of the Moon and the Goddess of the Sun are—and neither is willing to kneel.”

How Tsukuyomi will actually play or stack up against the rest of SMITE's gods remains to be seen, but Hi-Rez promises to share the details on the new god on the game’s next Update Show, which will air on the SMITE Twitch channel this Wednesday, July 22, at 12:00 PM PST/3:00 PM EST. After that, the details will be available on its official website.

SMITE is free-to-play on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
