Through an impressive CG trailer in the final Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, director Masahiro Sakurai finally revealed the game's new single-player adventure mode known as World of Light. Taking the place of previous single player modes like the Subspace Emissary, World of Light tells the story of why and how various video game characters were transformed into Spirits. With such a sprawling adventure, Nintendo has also managed to include more than one ending and here's how players can unlock the game's true version. Please be aware that minor spoilers for World of Light lay ahead.

As seen in the initial World of Light trailer for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, the colorful creature known as Galeem has taken control of every character except Kirby and has managed to turn most other people of Earth into spirits. As players find out during the course of gameplay, there's a world of light and a world of darkness, both battling each other for control with the player stuck in the middle to decide who wins. Helping either Galeem or Dharkon, the leader of the dark world, determines which ending will be shown after the first time through. However, most players will want to ignore both bosses for the time being.

Keeping the Balance

In order to receive the true ending, players will need to find a way to take both entities down to restore balance. Defeating a dark spirit, denoted by a black orb, helps Galeem, while defeating a light spirit, denoted by a white orb, helps Dharkon. Players can see which one currently has the edge based on the background. Instead of taking the bridge up to fight the boss characters, players should head to the middle of the map to find both Master Hand and Crazy Hand. Defeat both to force them to retreat to the right and left sides of the map. Master Hand counts for the light side, while Crazy Hand counts for the dark side, so make sure to take them both out to keep the balance.

Defeating both hands again will actually free them and cause a rift to open in the middle of the map. At this point, players should move the bridge over the opened rift and jump in. The battle then shifts to a fight between 50 spirit clones, with 25 being light, and the other 25 being dark. To even the odds a bit, players become Master Hand with access to all of its abilities like the powerful Down+B laser move. Finish off the clones and both Galeem and Dharkon appear. Players can now select three characters to bring to the final battle which include a few challenges as well.

The Final Challenges

The First challenge is a vertical scrolling stage with small battles in between each section. Once reaching the top of the section, the game goes into a boss rush mode, pitting the player against some of the foes the player has already beaten inside of Adventure mode. Keep in mind that each boss represents the light and dark, so players should keep the balance by not focusing on one side over the other. The final challenge is a dual battle with both Galeem and Dharkon, so the player needs to spread the damage out evenly between the two as they both need to be defeated around the same time in order to score the true ending. Defeat one side and let the other linger for too long and players will get a bad ending.

Players should try to keep the damagesmash even between the two boss characters. If one gains too much of an advantage, switch back to the other side and weaken them to keep things as even as possible. Once both bosses have been taken out at relatively the same time, the game rewards the player with the true ending and the ability to swap the game's menu music.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
