DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are often a hot topic in the community, with a new rumor or leak popping up every couple of weeks. Recently, this has included figures like Geno and Doom Guy from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and Doom, respectively, as prospective Mii costumes appeared online. However, alongside a few other leaked characters, well-known Super Smash Bros. Ultimate leaker Vergeben confirms that these characters will not be the next to appear in the crossover fighting game.

Leaks are only as trustworthy as their leaker, and while all leakers occasionally get it wrong, Vergeben has a solid track record. Therefore, Vergeben saying that they aren't making the cut is about as reliable as gets. This should make sense for fans who have kept up with the various Super Smash Bros. Ultimate leaks, as Doom Guy has been a holdover rumored time and again for the franchise's latest entry, but has yet to appear.

Vergeben didn't just stop at ruling those two out, though. He also stated that two other characters, Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, weren't going to be the next DLC character either. Of course, that doesn't rule out any of these characters from appearing in the next Fighter Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With more DLC characters on the way once this Pass finishes up, it's hard to permanently rule out anything.

Yet, there is one lingering question about this: Who will be the next DLC character? Terry Bogard is out for Smash Ultimate now, meaning many are looking forward to the next character, or at the very least, a reveal of the next character. Nintendo usually hosts a Direct sometime in November, so if that does happen some time this month, there's a good chance the character would be confirmed there.

If not, the Game Awards are on the horizon and could prove to be a good stage for the final character, though it's worth mentioning that it would be some wait for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans. For now, fans can only wait and see, perhaps keep an eye out for more leaks, but ultimately understand that there's a good chance it isn't Geno, Doom Guy, Ryu Hayabusa, or Scorpion.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
