Although the series is decades old, it definitely can't be said that Smash Bros has aged badly. With so much history, tons of games, characters, and DLC, it's only natural that fans of the series have provided it with a rich catalog of hilarious memes.

While it's known for its battlegrounds brimming with bright colors and beloved, timeless Nintendo characters like Mario and Donkey Kong duking it out, the game has also featured characters from outside of the Nintendo umbrella, hailing from other well-renowned franchises such as Final Fantasy. All of these factors combined give the fans an abundance of material for furnishing these hilarious viral memes.

10 Forgetting To Save The Replay

It happens to the best of us. Every player has been there at least once, having pulled something off that they didn’t even know the game was capable of. And in that overpowering euphoria and excitement in the moment right after pulling off the sickest combo, the replay comes and goes, and that beautiful move has slipped through their fingers just like that. At least they'll still have the memories!

9 Cereal Meme

With his laser eyes and haunting aesthetic, Dry Bowser almost makes the real Bowser look unthreatening. In a bizarre comparison between two different characters, the one on the left, Dry Bowser, looks like a ghostly version of the real thing. The likeness to the iconic villain has encouraged an unusual but hilarious reference to dry cornflakes.

8 Isabella’s Absence

As Smash Bros is a series that continuously adds new characters from other video games series, every player has their own opinion on which character should get the Smash Bros treatment. But there is one absentee that players can stand united on. Isabella from the TV show Phineas and Ferb has been a constant request from fans for a long time, and it seems like there are no reasons why she couldn’t be added to the game. However, her presence remains to be seen.

7 Cloud's Ridiculous Sword

Smash Bros is full of crazy capabilities and fun, but the game's characters often tote some totally unnecessary instruments of pain from their respective universes. One of the best examples of this is the weapon belonging to Final Fantasy VII’s most lovable and coolest protagonist, Cloud.

Everything about Cloud exudes cool. He has his stylish blonde locks of hair, his scowl, and of course, a ridiculously long sword that looks like it could impale King Kong. It’s the one blade that you might actually get away with bringing to a gunfight. It is completely and utterly ridiculous.

6 Slime Controller

Nintendo might have a history of building great controllers, but none have been as wild this one. The funny thing here is that at many of the Smash tournaments in which Smash Bros masters battle it out for awards and prizes, they'll often bring their own controllers, many of them trying to one-up each other with novelty peripherals such as the Resident Evil 4 chainsaw controller and other such rarities. But this specific design, which comes from one of the greatest and most interesting JRPG games of all time, Dragon Quest, takes the cake.

5 Getting Called A Bot

In Smash 4, getting called a bot definitely isn’t a compliment, given that the AI isn't anything to write home about. But in Ultimate, CPU players often have pinpoint precision and amazingly quick reaction time. This meme points out that getting called "a bot" is heavily dependant on the precise context when it comes to the Smash community.

4 Endless Characters

If there’s one thing gamers in the fighting games circuit love doing almost as much as playing the games themselves, it’s creating tier lists to sort out the best characters —  this is especially true for the Smash community, considering what an impressive and iconic roster it has developed over the years.

Looking back at the original line up, it's almost horrifyingly limited compared to what we have now — and they are some of the least picked characters today. But back in the day? These eight characters were enough to tide us over for years! We can’t even go two months without demanding a new character these days.

3 Embarrassing Strategies

With over 70 characters at the fanbase's disposal, there isn’t just one specific character that’s everyone’s favorite. However, there are a select few that everyone can agree are easily the worst. The clear winner of the bunch is Little Mac.

But with Spongebob being a playable character in the game whose health diminishes quicker than other characters, this is an all too familiar sight. However, standing idly by in a three player free for all game while the other players battle it out is often a winning strategy.

2 Peach’s Infuriating Celebration

As if losing a battle in the classic game is not enough, players have to suffer through the maddening victory of Peach, which is a fate worse than pandemonium itself. Even playing as Peach and winning makes the victory less rewarding. However, the thought of your opponents being forced to sit through the condescending victory screen does add some degree of smug satisfaction.

1 Desired Fighters

The seemingly limitless crossover potential in Smash Bros is one of the reasons why it has changed the future of fighting games. But there are always the same two or three characters that players choose to play as.

Furthermore, when it comes to players’ requests for new characters, the same names keep popping up, with Sora, Doom Slayer, and Crash being frequent mentions. These might be fun additions, but the constant demand for them in the community is becoming something of a tired mantra to some.
