Michael Myers is not only one of the most famous horror movie villains, but he's one of the fastest, too. Since Michael doesn't talk, it's hard to say if he's the most intelligent villain, but he does manage to escape from Smith's Grove, avoid the authorities in Haddonfield, and cheat death time and time again. Horror fans are more than a little eager to see how Michael will do in Halloween Ends, in theaters October 14th, 2022, and most would say taht Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is definitely smarter than he is.

Over the past few decades of fun and impressive scary films, there have been certain villains who feel wiser than others, thanks to their ability to evade being caught and continue on their evil paths. These villains think that they have it all figured out and can't stand the final girls and other characters who learn what's behind their plans.

Chucky (Child's Play Franchise)

Chucky in Child's Play 2

Whether watching the timeless killer doll Chucky in all eight movies in the slasher franchise, or enjoying the SyFy series which has just begun its second season, it's clear that this villain is super smart. Chucky is always on the move, ready to create chaos, kill people, and tell them how brilliant he is before doing so.

When compared to other horror villains, there's something especially clever about Chucky since he can read people well. Chucky's insults can be so biting because he only needs to spend a little bit of time with someone to get to the heart of what makes them tick, and Chucky likes to feel like he's in the know. Chucky is brilliant when it comes to doing what he wants to do and not getting caught.

Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare On Elm Street Franchise)

Freddy Krueger In A Nightmare On Elm Street

Freddy Kruger is seen as the best slasher villain and ever since horror fans first watched him in the 1984 film A Nightmare On Elm Street, it's clear that Freddy is one of the most intelligent ones, too. Freddy can enter dreams, which is no easy or small feat, and the fact that he can ruin his victim's ability to sleep peacefully proves how strong he is. It's hard to imagine anyone being able to stop Freddy.

Freddy can definitely sense fear and he knows when someone is particularly afraid of him, which is why he's so unsettled by Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp). Freddy can tell that Nancy is a threat to all that he has created and he's livid at her interference.

Jigsaw (Saw Franchise)

Tobin Bell As John Kramer In Saw

There are several Jigsaw killers and they give people tests that are absolutely horrible, which makes the Saw films some of the most twisted in the genre. Each one is smart in their own way but John Kramer stands out the most. John meets his end when Saw III (2006) wraps up, and he continues to be mentioned throughout the next films in the popular Saw slasher franchise.

John, who used to be a civil engineer, is the kind of brilliant villain who uses his mind to do terrible things and hurt a lot of people. John learns that he has a brain tumor because of colon cancer and decides that he's going to make people decide if they want to live or not.

The Grabber (The Black Phone, 2022)

Ethan Hawke as The Grabber in The Black Phone

In some ways, The Black Phone's villain is a letdown, as he doesn't have enough backstory and there are some holes that could have been filled in. But when it comes to the smartest horror movie villains, Ethan Hawke's character The Grabber is definitely in that category.

The Grabber has been able to live in his brother's house in Denver, Colorado for a long time and no one has been the wiser. He follows the same plan every time: take kids, keep them in the basement, torment them, and then kill them. However, even though he seems to be in control of the sinister acts that he commits, the children in The Black Phone are able to crack the case, which shows how intelligent they are and how well they listen to their gut instincts.

The Mother (Barbarian, 2022)

The Mother in Barbarian

Barbarian is a different kind of horror movie that has been a memorable favorite from this past year. The Mother (Matthew Patrick Davis) is the villain who Tess Marshall (Georgina Campbell) finds in the basement of the rental home that she stays at while trying to get a new job.

While some horror movie villains are silly, The Mother is absolutely terrifying. She takes people and breastfeeds them as she is full of emotion and longs for what she doesn't have. Tess can't deal with the secret that she has uncovered and audiences can't believe their eyes, either. The Mother is stranger than most classic villains and has been smart enough to evade being caught all this time.
