Pokemon come in all shapes and sizes. With nine generations, there are tons out there to keep track of. Trainers do not exactly choose Pokemon for their team just for their size. People typically care more about types and abilities. However, it is pretty interesting and sometimes even surprising to find out the actual size of these creatures.

RELATED: Darkest Pokemon Games, Ranked

The anime takes its liberties, and it can be very hard to tell what size a Pokemon is just by watching them battle. But their Pokedex entries in-game are very detailed, including the exact height and size of each Pokemon. The smallest Pokemon come in all different types, from the biggest of the small to the smallest Pokemon ever.

Updated April 29, 2023 by Sophie McEvoy: If players thought Pokemon couldn’t get any smaller, Scarlet and Violet introduced a bunch of the cutest little creatures to put on their teams. As has always been the case, these Pokemon don’t stay small for long as they grow and evolve into stronger versions of themselves. But for a small period of time, players can fawn over their adorable little critters as they find their way in the world.

From chicks to grasshoppers, Paldea has a lot to offer in terms of the smallest Pokemon to be caught. And as found in their Pokedex entries, they have surprisingly impressive abilities despite their small size.

19 Applin (8 Inches)

Applin official artwork

Applin was introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and with its adorable little faux-apple style and coveted Grass/Dragon-typing, it quickly became a fan favorite. Players also like that this Pokemon has a branching evolution, with it being able to evolve into Flapple or Appletun depending on the evolutionary item given to it.

It makes sense that this Pokemon is nearly accurate when it comes to the size of real apples. Additionally, it's super cute that when Applin is shiny, it is green, so players can collect both green and red apples.

Pokedex Info On Applin

  • Type: Grass/Dragon
  • Generation Introduced: Sword and Shield
  • Base Stats: Highest in Defense. Lowest in Speed.
  • Interesting Fact: Has the lowest Speed base stat of all Dragon-types.

Where To Catch Applin In Scarlet and Violet

Applin is unique in that it's mainly found in trees around Paldea rather than encountered on the ground. To get them down, players will need to learn the Dash ability from the Stony Titan Klawf and then ride directly into the tree to knock it out.

Applin can, however, be found on the ground but they are a hard Pokemon to spot. There is an Applin that can always be found on the ground on an outcrop east of the Great Crater of Paldea.

18 Nymble (8 Inches)

15 Milcery (8 Inches)

Milcery official artwork

Milcery is another Pokemon that was presented in Sword and Shield, and its height only being 8 inches tall may surprise most as it looks larger in the game. However, when one considers it to be a splash of milk, its sizing makes a lot more sense.

14 Rellor (8 inches)

Rellor official artwork

Rellor is a Bug-type Pokemon based on a dung beetle, but instead of rolling a ball of dung, Rellor is never seen without a ball of mud. And if a player happens upon a Shiny version of Rellor, its ball looks distinctly like a Nugget thanks to its shiny gold color.

Despite Rellor’s delicate size, it has no trouble wheeling that mud ball around every day. And it's this experience that helps it evolve into the Bug/Psychic-type Rabsca.

Pokedex Info On Rellor

  • Type: Bug
  • Generation Introduced: Scarlet and Violet
  • Base Stats: Highest in Defense. Lowest in Special Attack and Speed.
  • Interesting Facts: Rellor has an unconventional evolution method in that players will need to walk with the Pokemon using the Let's Go feature to evolve into Rabsca.

Rellor is relatively uncommon to find in Paldea, living only in the Asado Desert. However, it can also be found in 1-Star Tera Raids.

13 Klefki (8 Inches)

Klefki official artwork

Klefki was introduced with the release of Pokemon X and Y. It's a Steel/Fairy-type Pokemon, and although it currently has no other evolutions, it's definitely got the potential to be given one in the future.

Pokedex Info On Meltan

  • Type: Steel
  • Generation Introduced: Sun and Moon
  • Base Stats: Highest in Attack and Defense. Lowest in Speed and Special Defense.

RELATED: Every Pokemon Grass Starter, Ranked

Wishiwashi official artwork

Obviously, when talking about size, we are talking about this Pokemon's solo form and not its school form where it forms into a giant shark-like creature. It is undeniably one of the smallest Water-Types when it comes to its solo form.

According to the Bulbapedia, the solo form of this creature has a ton of natural predators like Dewgong, Wailord, Wingull, and Wailmer. It's a Pokemon-eat-Pokemon world out there. 5 Cosmoem (4 Inches)

Cosmoem official artwork

Pokemon X and Y gave fans the smallest legendary Pokemon. Interestingly enough though, it is also one of the heaviest Pokemon. It weighs over two thousand pounds! That ties it with Celesteela for the heaviest Pokemon.

It being so small but so heavy makes this Pokemon similar to super-compressed astral bodies like black holes. That is just neat, especially since its design is already very space-like. So while this legendary Pokemon may be small, maybe don't try to carry it or put it in a bag.

Pokedex Info On Cosmoem

  • Type: Psychic

They are pretty cute, though they do not stay small and tick-like for long and evolve into large tarantula creatures at level 36. It was introduced in Pokemon Black and White, just beating Tynamo for the smallest Electric-type.

RELATED: Pokemon: Every Elite Four, Ranked

3 Comfey (4 Inches)

Comfey official artwork

This Fairy-Type Pokemon was introduced in Alola and it definitely belongs on one's head since it is basically a sentient flower crown. It is so small though, it might not fit on one's head! While it is not the smallest on our list, it does take the title of the smallest fully evolved Pokemon. That means the others that are further down do not stay small, but Comfey does.

As for its design. The flowers are not a part of its body but rather a part of its collection that sticks to itself. Does that mean they can technically get bigger depending on the flowers? Sure, in the anime. In the games, however, they stay static.

Pokedex Info On Comfey

  • Type: Fairy
  • Generation Introduced: Sun and Moon
  • Base Stats: Highest in Special Defense. Lowest in HP.
  • Interesting Fact: Comfey is a living lei, which is associated with the Hawaiian Culture that the Alola region is based on.

Cutiefly official artwork

This adorable Bug and Fairy-Type was released in Pokemon Sun and Moon along with many others on this list. It also evolves into Rimbombee, so while it does evolve at level 25, it still does not get that much larger.

Besides being very small, it is the lightest Bug-Type Pokemon in terms of weight, weighing 0.4 pounds. Its design is based on a real bug called the bee fly, but Cutiefly is way cuter.

Pokedex Info On Cutiefly

  • Type: Bug/Fairy
  • Generation Introduced: Sun and Moon
  • Base Stats: Highest in Speed. Lowest in Defense and Special Defense.
  • Interesting Fact: Its design is based on a real insect called the bee fly.
