While it is only four months into 2022, PlayStation has already come out swinging with heavy-hitter exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 releasing. However, a game which has proven to be a sleeper hit to kick off the year is the martial arts-action title Sifu from French developer Sloclap, releasing to largely positive reviews and strong sales on PS4 and PS5. It appears Sloclap has no intentions of slowing down and, if a new job posting is any indication, is already hard at work on a new game.

Sifu is a modern 3D beat-em-up set in China where players take on the role of an unnamed, gifted martial artist who sets out on a quest for revenge against those responsible for killing their father and the killers' former master. The martial artist is also imbued with the power to return from the dead thanks to an ancient talisman. However, the talisman ages the martial artist every time they're revived. Along with the largely positive reviews, the game was a major monetary success for the smaller studio which reported the game sold over a million units within its first month out.

As mentioned above, the latest job listings on Sloclap's official website seems to indicate the studio is ready to kickstart development on its next game, if it hasn't already. One position the studio is looking for is a new level designer to aid the team of 50 in building a new 3D action game. The listed requirements include what can be expected for this type of job, such as game and level design experience, but it also asks a potential candidate to have an interest in martial arts.

The information Sloclap posted in the job listing teases a couple of possibilities players could look forward to for the studio's next title. The first possibility, and for some players the most obvious, is its next game could be a sequel to Sifu. Given Sifu's success, it would make sense for Sloclap to try and strike while the iron is hot and continue the journey of the game's unnamed martial artist.

It is also possible Sloclap may be working on a brand-new title, though one that builds on the work done in Sifu. It isn't that uncommon in the video game industry for developers for new titles to build on their previous work, creating spiritual sequels which, in turn, help give the studio a specific identity. One of the best modern examples of this approach is FromSoftware, which has built its identity over the last decade for its various "Soulsborne"-style games, like Elden Ring, delivering a tough, boss-driven gameplay loop set against dark, fantastical worlds. Whether it proves to be a sequel, new title, or even something in-between, though, remains to be seen.

Sifu is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
